I've never claimed to be knowledgeable in politics, but to me the main lesson to be learnt out of all of this is that the public simply don't know enough about politics or economics and something must be done about it. I'm not saying that the leave decision was the wrong one, or the right one, but the majority of people just don't understand the ramifications of either outcome. Both campaigns were an utter mess and full of scare tactics

Perhaps politics and economics should be compulsory subjects at school? Surely it would be far more useful knowledge than religious studies, for example.
Post of the thread right here

Without wishing to sound facile, isn't it the job of those in power to understand the politics and economy? We entrust them, they should do their job. When our understanding is thoroughly undermined by the torrent of lies and half-truths foisted upon us during this campaign, what hope is there?

the thought of the reasoning for some who voted to leave, really makes me worry. Those Britain First beauts have had their day. Nigel Farage has had his day, UKIP have had their day, The Sun have had their day, Katie Hopkins has had her day, The Daily Mail has had its day and Iain Duncan-Smith has had his day (I thought his words 'the council estates have voted' were particularly nice)

What a crap crap day.

You reap what you sow, make your bed now sleep.

From my point of view the brexits main focus was on migration, that's brought out a huge number of people who would never normally vote.

Just the general thought of the whole thing.

If leaving EU was so dangerous and could ruin the country.

Then why give us a vote on it?

I voted in, and I agree that the leave campaign was a joke, but I actually don't think the remain campaign helped themselves by virtually suggesting Armageddon if the country voted to leave. A better, balanced campaign by them would have seen us still in the EU now IMO.

None of the campaigns convinced me, and actually had me up the wall at times, at the end of the day though,I voted with my head.

When swathes of people are told on a daily basis that immigrants are bad for years on end, that's going to have an effect. They couldn't compete with the immigration argument, because as unfounded as it is, it is now engrained. Depressing.

I didnt in the end, life got in the way.

I honestly dont feel as tho I was informed enough to make a decision, so whilst I feel a bit bad that my vote was "wasted", I can take some solace from that what happens next, wasnt my fault.
Individually no it wasn't, a collective of you means it was. Our generation and you at 41 are still with me, are the ones who are likely to suffer.

I don't disagree. Cameron has been hoist on his own petard...terrible Prime Minister-ship.
