Poll finds support for Brexit has hit a new low
http://uk.businessinsider.com/yougov-poll-brexit-support-new-low-2017-10

LONDON — Support for Brexit has fallen to its lowest point since the referendum, according to a new poll.

With less than a year and a half to go until Britain leaves the EU, a new YouGov poll for the Times finds that just 42% of voters now think Britain was right to back Brexit, with 47% saying it was wrong.

This is the lowest level of support YouGov has recorded for Brexit since Britain voted to leave in June 2016.

The poll finds significant numbers of Brexit voters have changed their mind. Seven per cent of Leave voters now say they were wrong to back Brexit with a further 7% saying they don't know.

As Brexit negotiations hit "deadlock," over Britain's divorce bill, the poll also found a growing majority of people now believe the government are handling negotiations badly.

64% say May's government are mishandling talks with just 21% saying they are going well.

YouGov / Times poll

In hindsight, do you think Britain was right or wrong to vote to leave the European Union?

Right to leave 42% (-2)
Wrong to leave: 47% (+2)

There is also growing fears about the impact of Brexit on the economy. 44% say Brexit will make Britain worse off compared to just 23% who say Britain will be better off.

A plurality of voters also said Brexit would be bad for jobs and pensions, damage the NHS and leave Britain with less influence in the world. However, a majority of voters continue to believe that the decision will decrease immigration.

"What's behind the mask..."

Unbelievable.

This has been their position from the very start. It's a completely reasonable one. It's your problem if you deluded yourself into thinking it was a bluff.

They are protecting their interests and have the leverage and necessity required to do so. There is nothing new, nothing surprising here. All that is happening is lie after lie of the Brexit Utopia from the Farages of this world are crumbling down all over the place.

If you, or any others, can't see the vindictiveness and vituperation now coming out of the EU, then there's nothing more to say on this point. They are absolutely furious that the UK has turned its back on them, in a validly constituted referendum. What d'ya call it on here? FUME, isn't it?

What is this leverage you believe they have......

Seems to me that the agenda is fully set by them. As in, "we wont even talk trade deals till this divorce bill is settled, and we will turn down every offer you make anyrate" sort of leverage.

But they really want a trade deal, according to some one here.

Unless I misunderstood.

Indeed, it’s difficult to negotiate if one party will not even talk, but that does not mean they have leverage. If we had a £70Bn trade surplus with the EU, they would have some leverage, but as it’s the other way around they don’t.......

Perhaps someone should tell them then, cos at the moment, they dont seem that arsed.

It seems to me, roydo, that they want to dictate everything that happens. And they get really peed off when we don't dance to their tune. Your first paragraph sums it up perfectly.

You are looking at it the wrong way. Because we're so dependent on that trade for profit, anything threatening it hits us to our core. Because we rely on selling to the EU, any threat to that hurts us more than it does the EU.

It's not a strength; it's a very obvious weakness.

Great aint it?

Cant wait till we can make all our rules and that. And that controlled borders lark will be a thing of beauty too, cant wait.

The next 5 years will be most interesting. To use the key word in the thread about Everton football moments, 'seismic' even.

Isn't about 50% of our trade with the EU and about 5% of theirs is with us? Wouldn't that indicate we would be far more effected by having no deal?

I get your point about the surplus but I think you are ignoring the point above which is more important.
