I'd lump on the UK still being in the EU in 10 years
I wouldn't tbh
I'd lump on the UK still being in the EU in 10 years
Ah, so my sarcasm is condescending, but yours is tongue in cheek.......
So apart from providing our own money, what did they actually do. The Irish Politicians north and South of the border did their bit, as did John Major, Mo Mowlem and Tony Blair. Bill Clinton can throw his hat in as well, besides the police and security services and the civil servants of the U.K. and Ireland. Even the terrorists had a hand in bringing peace. But please tell me just one single thing that anyone from the EU brought to the party.......
What have the EU ever done for us, isn't that a Monty Python sketch?
Apart from €1.5 billion in 10 years put into helping to building cross community partnerships and cross border institutes. The European Commission Office in Belfast helps businesses, the public sector and community groups get access to EU funding. Extra funding for Northern Ireland is provided through the PEACE programmes.
Maybe people on the ground give credibility to the EU for assisting in the peace process. The EU would never make a ridiculous statement that they were responsible for bringing peace to the island of Ireland.
So when I ask what else, apart from providing our own money, that they have done you tell me about how the money was spent. So they did nothing.
Oh no, the EU would never claim that they brought peace would they, have a look at their acceptance speech when they gave themselves the Nobel Peace prize for bringing peace to Europe. No mention of the USA, UK, Canadian, Australian or Empire troops. Oh no, they would never take the credit......

Edit....additionally......
Pete, you're banging on as if the UK is the only country that financed the EU programs in Northern Ireland.
I'd lump on the UK still being in the EU in 10 years
I wasn't alive pre EU/EEC but I grew up with a pretty nasty border about 20 miles away (as I'm sure, did you). I believe both Ireland and the UK being members of the EU helped that border to become non existent. I voted for the GF agreement partly because I felt both countries were part of a bigger project and the EU was helping us to work together.
First off. Give it a rest we get it. You hate the EU simple as that we get it
Secondly.Look the peace process comments were exaggerated and blown out of proportion by MEP Dodd and only reported by the daily express. No one else cared or thought about it the same way she did and evidently you also.
The video you linked is straight from their website the daily express. Its a storm in a tea cup and its not what he was claiming clearly
Finally did you even read the document you just posted? i bet you glanced at it.
They stake the claim to only one main thing and that was creating a common goal and unifying European members who share a common interest and common goals which in many cases stabilised their lands.
They are not staking claim to war efforts or hard work done by politicians and the people of those lands
By helping countries strike deals and acts to help them better each other as friends not foe
sure this line in the piece even sums up their mission
"The Union has perfected the art of compromise. No drama of victory or defeat, but ensuring all countries emerge victorious from talks. For this, boring politics is only a small price to pay…"
Get off your high horse they are not pretending they fixed European issues and clearly do not take credit for war time efforts.
Like i said before you are so black and white.

Anglo Irish relations are as good as they've been really. But the EU has nothing to do with it tbh. It's just that finally both countries have realised there's an awful more we have in common than divides us that it's actually really beneficial for both countries to be friendly neighbours.
If Ireland chooses to put Europe above the UK then they really are shooting themselves in the foot. UK trade is bigger than every other EU country combined for Ireland.
Hahaha....of course I read it, I’m probably the only one on here who even knew of its existence.
I highlight your quote which you believe sums up their mission....”The Union has perfected the art of compromise. No drama of victory or defeat, but ensuring all countries emerge victorious from talks. For this, boring politics is only a small price to pay…"
So is that how they are working with the U.K. to sensibly exit the EU, compromise, ensuring all countries emerge victorious from talks, nice quotes are cheap, actual actions cost a little more.......
Ireland is not choosing anything. Britain is choosing to leave the EU. For Ireland nothing was ever on the table in that respect.
As for trade yes technically that's true but Belgium is close behind Britain when it comes to exports and believe it or not Israel takes quite a bit of Irish goods to now.
Here is a snippet of the main trade partners
The statistics show that while Ireland exported €13.7 billion worth of goods to Britain in 2015, exports to Belgium topped €14.5 billion.
A proportion of this is shipped on from Belgian ports to other markets.
Exports to Britain still account for much more bulk – 36% of the total volume of exports were across the Irish Sea.
The United States, meanwhile, remain our most lucrative export market by a country mile, accounting for €26 billion of Irish exports last year.
Israel
Israel has jumped from being our 14th biggest export market to 11th, with electrical machinery and appliances the single biggest sector.
Also i doubt Britain will suddenly close the door and not take anything from Ireland or allow them to import anything. That would be pretty petty quite frankly
There's no chance of Ireland doing anything to jeopardise their trade with the UK. That is shooting themselves in both feet.
You are the one suggesting that not me. By saying Ireland will "choose" or should "choose" Britain over the EU.
There's no choosing here.
What do you expect Ireland to do? Or what are you expecting to happen?
Remember Britain is stuck right now with your homeland being the biggest issue. Seems like Ireland has the one up on the British government because the biggest brexit headache is Northern Ireland.
But go ahead tell me what Ireland needs to do for Britain?
