More EU claims...the EU brought peace to NI....nothing to do with the people, the police and security services, the politicians in Ireland, NI or UK....no it was all down to the EU.....
Verhofstadt....”I went to Northern Ireland. I had never been to Northern I had never been to Belfast but I went there. I thought problems were solved. I can tell you it was a shock to go to Belfast because the reality is that problems are not over. The worst thing that can happen is that we lose the peace that Europe has brought there in Northern Ireland with the efforts of the European Union."
I'm not sure he meant politically though. Well not entirely.
You don't think the influx of funding from the EU to help infrastructure and regeneration helped then?
Anyway here is a link to what he may be referring to with regards to EU help:

I think that the Good Friday agreement was only possible due to both countries being members of the EU common market.
I’m sure the influx of our own money did help, but it’s their constant craving for taking the credit on anything that’s good (NI and European peace) without once accepting that actually these things were happening as a result of the efforts of others including the USA. They are brain washing people and especially children into believing that the all powerful EU is behind any good outcomes in the world, and people like Verhofstadt will always take the credit, but surprisingly never the blame, for events....
That link you posted is very typical of their self serving PR.....
Pete with respect you just hate anything they have to say even if they were to back it up with pure facts and figures you would disagree simply because you hate them as you have admitted.
This comment borders on conspiracy theorist type of stuff. Like they have an agenda that is anti Britain and they are out to take everything its members has. Maybe its all one big German plot to rule the world...
Look the reality is the EU has helped many of its members. It has helped many of those countries build and regenerate and its help them get access to trade routes they otherwise could not get or afford. Ireland my homeland has definitely benefited from their handouts.
Are they perfect? No, Do they have some shady characters with shady ideas? Its possible and probably yes.
But to write of all of the good they have done is pure ridiculousness.
"Brainwashing children" that sums up how mental your comment is.
Not at all, they can take credit by all means for whatever they have actually achieved, Schengen, the Euro or whatever. My point is that this Verhofstadt guy is now trying to take the credit for the peace in NI as others in the EU have claimed similar for peace in Europe.........
I find it funny when called out you try walk back the insane part of your posts and just wash them off like you didn't say it... but anyway....
Now he isn't though is he. He said they helped. His words you quoted were their 'effort'.
Technically they were involved and technically they helped in their own way. Where does it say or where does he say they were completely instrumental? As in they sat down hashed out the agreement and got the sides to the table. Did he elaborate and talk about that? I suspect no....
I think you are misconstruing his comments to suit your anti EU agenda. I believe like i have said he was acknowledging some of the good they have been in part in with help with. Attitudes in Ireland and NI started changing when jobs were created due to funding and businesses started looking our way and setup both in the south and north. Finally people had jobs and in part times were looking a little brighter. The funding from the EU helped this. If you don't believe google NI news and look at some of the comments over the years and discussion on the opinions of people from there about EU funding and if they helped.
He would be foolish to say anything of the sort because Britain and Ireland would call him out on that and i put it to you have they? Are they as upset as you? I read nothing in any of the papers or on their news sites
