if that's your idea of reason, there's not much point to this.

Just leave it as it is, as it was before we all joined. The UK doesn't have a problem with this. The EU checks everyone in and out of Schengen ( just look at the current delays while we are still members ), of which the Republic is not part, the Republic checks everyone entering Eire and there is no reason to stop any flow between North and South. EU nationals, other than Irish passport holders, can be told to register with U.K. Authorities on their way in and out of the UK, just as they would entering via any other UK city. I don't see insurmountable problems people wise, but the transfer of goods and services may be subject to duties depending on trade talks......

Ruairi77,

Let me summarise over 1300 pages for you.

Leave won, Remain lost.

Remainers (known as Remoaners) spoke doom & gloom. Leavers said 'tough merde', get over it.

Remoaners said the Leave campaign lied to win. Leavers said both sides lied, get over it.

From time to time the Remoaners churn out the same old stuff. From time to time the Leavers post a rebuttal.

That's it mate, honest! Just look at tonight's postings! ;) :)

Thanks Pete,
I would argue that the border as it is and as it was pre EU are quite different. I think Ireland will veto any physical customs border unless it can be agreed pre 3/19

Oh another thing, Ruairi77,

The Mods enter the thread from time to time and weigh in with their views.

The members usually weigh in heavily against them.

I have to say, they take it all very well. They get stuck in to the give-and-take with gusto with the rest of the members. Kudos to them!

Yea, I've been posting for a while. And yea, leave won, I guess the debate now is about the process for leaving which seems as well thought out as the calling of a straight referendum

What will be going on now constantly is that the Heads of Departments will have teams of civil servants going through everything pertinent to their Department, and working through what needs to be done. None of what is going on will be made public, despite all the noises being made by the media that nothing is happening. One might say that matters are at the stage of being 'commercial-in confidence' (for want of a better phrase to describe the process), i.e. we will not show our hand in public at present, and neither will the EU.

That is about the size of it.

I don't believe the UK wants any kind of physical customs border with Ireland and has said so. The only people who will want one is the EU and Ireland really need to be having words with them......

Indeed. Anyone who believes that we have been sat on our hands for the last twelve months really has no idea about our government departments.......

No. If they vote to remain part of the UK then that's it. If they vote to join Ireland then that's it. But to ensure that no troubles ensue I would offer the option of relocation. I want NI to remain part of the UK but it's their call. What would you do ?
That's pie in the sky though, as if the DUP would sanction a referendum in the first place.

In addition, merely saying that if the result goes the wrong way you can come over here lads. What does that even mean? Are you going to house them? find them employment? What if they just said, no ta, we'll stay here and try to ensure that it doesn't happen via a return to terrorism?

Errrrmmm so a border then? Otherwise how do you enforce this? Make sure you let us know you're here lads, otherwise we'll get quite cross lol

There isn't even consensus agreement on Brexit within the Tory cabinet, so what are they working on?

For example, have we got teams of people working on enlarging our customs sites at ports etc, to cope with the massive issue that leaving the customs union will cause? Where's the planning here? How long will it take to enlarge these facilities? We've got until April 2019 have a solution in place apparently...

It's a complete bloody shambles.

You will not know anything about background plans at this point in time, as I stated in an earlier post.

Unless of course you know everything that is going on behind the scenes in every single Government Department, in which case I'm sure we will all bow to your superior knowledge...

By the same logic, how do you know there are plans being made ?
