Think the cash value does mean something to a group who are losing its second biggest contributer and have a shrinking market. as for trade are world trading links are out of kilter because we have to impose EU tarrifs on that trade meaning it's scewed towards the EU , when we chose to we can alter that to suit us once we leave.
Plus as three quarters of all EU deals in future s and derivertives , in Euro currency's are done in London it leaves Germany and the others wide open for sanctions if they get a bit upperty, access to that sector is a must for any major international deal, due to fluctuating in currency values,
The city of London not just in European terms but globally is the center for that market. It will not move for lots of reasons i will not bore you with.
Last time i looked quite a lot of German banks were in danger if they couldn't get unhindered access to that market, 29 i think was the number, might be why dutcherbank is moving jobs to London.
Plus they are all heavenly invested into the UK, are they going to ruin there own investment s or leave them open to a hostile UK laws sounds a good idea?
If the EU thinks it can kick the UK around the same way it's treaded Greece it's in for an almighty shock.
That,s without us getting really dirty over security if pushed ,. Let's see how long the 27 stick together if we say due to sanctions we can't afford to send troops to eastern Europe ect. And we're cutting back are NATO commitment due to other members not paying there way.
Both sides are rattling sabres treat it with the contemp it deserves

Be very careful about the 'Who pays what to NATO' narrative. This is clearly being pushed by Putin to destabilize the group.
On the economic side, It's hard to say how it will pan out, but with the pound not gaining in value, I'd say the prognoses isn't great but this can go round in circles for ages.
The worry I have for Britain is the insular nature of all of this.
Tens of thousands of British citizens are in the process of giving up their passports for EU ones. Thousands of EU citizens are contemplating leaving the UK.
And I haven't even touched on Scotland or N.Ireland.
Unchecked patriotism will lead to unhealthy isolation and thats not good for any society as a whole.

By saying that the words I posted were racism you WERE accusing me of that by implication which is IMO well out of order.

In your opinion my words were racism. In my opinion they weren't.

Really out of order in my opinion
I said 'casual' racism and posting words that wouldn't look out of place in a Stan Boardman Germans routine were imo.

Others may disagree, and that doesn't mean I was inferring you were a racist though, as I don't know you and wouldn't accuse anyone of that without irrefutable evidence. So I can assure you that wasn't my intention.

I only mentioned it as part of a wider point, that there seems to be a change in tack from the Tories and the avid Leave supporters in the last few days / weeks, which was highlighted by Howard's crass and inflammatory comments over the weekend, and I'm certain we're being softened up for what now seems to the inevitable hardest of hard Brexit.

Hopefully NATO is off limits , from a personal perspective i hope it is.
But if it gets to a pushing match , i would put it behond the government to pull it out.
Myself i just hope common sense prevails and we don't get bogged down by some political pygmies on both sides, its going to hurt both sides intally how much is the question .

Sorry, not sure I follow, you think the UK might pull out of NATO?, or reduce its NATO funding?

Good grief.

I love the way them leveraging their strong negotiation position is now being spun into this kind of thing.

I thought they were going to agree to give the UK a good deal because they stood to lose out big time? Why's the narrative changed?

They have a negotiating position. We have a negotiating position. Some in the EU are not really bothered apart from losing our money, some are very worried that a deal won't be done. All we've seen so far is a further attempt at adopting a bullying position which is all the EU knows, nothing has really changed because we haven't even started negotiations yet. It is in everyone's benefit to have a good deal. But if it's not to be then WTO it is........

Reduce its funding in line with the EU average.

We don't fund NATO as such though do we?

I thought the NATO agreement was that member states spent 2% of GDP on defence spending?

Given that we're seemingly intent on being a independent military power, with gunboats poised to head off down to Spain :) I'd have said it's likely we'll spend more not less in the future mate

The UK started negotiating last July.

But surely if the boot was on the other foot you'd label that leveraging your position?

How can you accuse the EU of 'bullying' for merely setting out their stall?

It's the latest ridiculous narrative being spun to stir up jingoism and make the seemingly inevitable cliff edge of WTO terms seem like the 'only' option imo. The nasty EU bullied us so we had no choice but to flounce off.

Your correct only us and Poland stick to it in Europe think some of the other eastern countries are not far behind.
This government spend money are you mad.
Might say it , doing its another matter.
Anyway i don't want it to happen , but wouldn't be surprised to see it threatened.

I think anything that relates to the military, shared intelligence, universal collaboration etc should be left off the table personally.

I don't see what it gives us anyway barring looking like we're grasping for straws.
