Thought this myself..V strange, unless she is worried about it showing divisions within her party?
Not a bad days work secures trade deals with Saudi Arabia, and has a distraction of the Supreme Court then stops Labour winning a vote tomorrow, with a compromise outlining her aims of what Brexit may look like!
Which may be pie in the sky any way!
Labour will get a vote before article 50 is signed in the spring!

Theresa May has dramatically announced that MPs will on Wednesday be given the opportunity to vote on her plan to trigger Article 50 and formally begin Brexit next year.

Just over 24 hours after the Supreme Court began considering whether Parliament should be allowed a vote, the Prime Minister formally amended a backbench motion on Brexit – a process which will trigger a vote on Wednesday evening.

MPs will be asked to back the Government's plan to formally serve Article 50 by the end of March 2017. Mrs May also committed to revealing the official plan for Brexit before the process begins.

The unexpected announcement came after months of the Government refusing to formally allow Parliament to vote on Brexit or give a "running commentary" on the process.

Wednesday's vote was welcomed by both leave and remain campaigners – with Brexiteers backing the Prime Minister's decision to finally tackle the issue head-on. Downing Street sources said that it was now time to "see if those who say they accept the result really do".

MPs and remain campaigners have spent months plotting over how to undermine the result of the referendum – while saying they support the will of the people – and will now have to reveal their intentions.

Conservative MPs will be forced to support the amendment although a small number are expected to either abstain or vote against the Government.

Labour also said on Tuesday night that it would back the amendment, although it was unclear whether its MPs would support the position.

The Liberal Democrats and SNP are expected to vote in defiance of the referendum result in an attempt to block Brexit.

It's difficult to reverse something that has not started yet. Far better that Parliament agrees that leaving the EU to pick up a WTO agreement on the same terms makes no sense at all and gets down to serious reform of the EU rather than this charade.

If you think that the EU would listen to any of our suggestions for reform, then I would respectfully suggest that that is a deluded view... Go take a read of Cameron's £9 miillion leaflet again - all smoke and mirrors concerning our important role in the EU.

Well let's hope this stops anymore nonsense of trying to block article 50 from the bulk of honest MP's (if such a thing actually exists). May is obviously calling their bluff, now the people who seriously want to stop article 50 being invoked will have no choice but to lay their cards on the table and show just how anti democratic they are. It will be interesting to see how many MP's decide to simply dismiss the will of 17.5million voters and the majority based on their own personal wish. We will soon see the true enemies of the people!

@The Esk - and anyone else not bored to tears by this never ending thread: a quick look at the legitimacy of the referendum vote.

The Tories make a manifesto pledge to hold an in / out referendum before 2017. They gain power.

Labour withdraw their objection to the notion of a referendum.

The Commons pass the necessary bill by 544 votes to 53.

The referendum question is guided by and approved by the (independent) Electoral Commission.

After extensive talks, Cameron announces reforms he has gained which he claims are in Britain's interest.

Extensive campaigning begins. A publicly funded pamphlet, issued by the government, states:

"This is your decision. The government will implement what you decide."

Questionable claims & counterclaims are made by both campaigns.*

On June 23rd., there is a turnout of 72.2%. This compares with turnouts of 61.4%, 65.1% and 66.4% in the three previous General Elections.
A majority is gained by the Leave side of the argument.

Everything else is opinion, bluster, media people trying to rebuild their image as sage diviners of the public will, and incoherent assertion of opinion as fact.

In my forthcoming book "Why My View is Superior To Yours, You Fascist Plebs", I discuss at length why the electorate produced such a result. It would take a monumental and unique blend of ignorance and arrogance to question the process though of course, its implications can be reviled / lauded till the cows come home. Having said that we live in a world where Greg Dyke (the well known philosopher) announced on Sky TV that the 17.5 million Leavers had stolen his European identity, so I suppose all things are possible.
