I accept entirely I am taking (for me) an unusually extreme position but I do feel the consequences of leaving the EU are so severe it warrants the position.

That's the exact attitude those who think lesser of us 'peasants' have. "The public voted incorrectly, against our wishes. The public is wrong, discard their opinion."

This is a big reason why people voted to leave the EU. Hell, it's not dissimilar to what contributed to Trump getting into the White House. It boils down not to economics, but by people getting tired of essentially being told their opinion is wrong.

That's certainly an argument here and in the UK but it smacks of one side going 'listen to me, this is what's best' while the other side says 'don't let them tell you what to do'. Either way, someone is forming your opinion and it's up to you to wade through the BS and make the most informed choice possible. If you look at both Trump and Brexit, only one side (the loosing side) had a plan, the other relied on fear.

It's not so much the people's opinion though as the opinion of the opinion makers'. The right wing media have created a narrative so far from reality yet cleverly appealing, seductive even, that immigration is the root cause of everyone's problems and can be resolved by leaving the EU. Add in a bit of totally false increased sovereignty and you've got a winning argument.

It doesn't matter to the opinion formers that most people will suffer as a consequence as the opinion formers stand to gain.

Fear of world war 3 if we left - or the fear of us falling off the economic cliff the day after brexit -or the emergency austerity budget by Osborne the day after we voted out do you mean??????????????
Both sides told horrendous lies!
We now have the mega rich putting patsys in courts to pursuit their own greed Branson , and Geldolf are examples!
If this brexit is squashed by the rich and the bankers expect a political backlash from Ukip, and poor legitimate immigrants getting picked on big style in an horrific way!
the EU seemed to accept the vote in Italy today yet they fear the worse is yet to come from Italy!

The referendum was the democratic answer esk you can spell of all your facts , but at the end of the day remain lost!

I was taken in by 'fear', you suggest?

What an utter load of bollocks!!!

The people who voted 'Leave' can actually think for themselves, and are as equally, if not more, intelligent than many (if not most) who voted 'Remain'. Don't put me to the test...

You say someone is writing 'bollocks' then suggest that people who voted to leave are more intelligent than those who voted to stay.
LOL .... L.... LOL...

You obviously didn't see any of Norman Smith's reports (for want of a better word) on BBC news in the weeks and days leading up to 23rd June. The media (the BBC in this case) hammered home the horrors of leaving the EU, with scaremongering tactics such as you have constantly displayed over the months in this thread. The shame is, you STILL think you have valid arguments to make, from your high level monetary & economic standpoint, when all you are advocating is your own personal financial position and view, and your unquenchable desire for the 'status quo' to remain. Luddite, I call you. A 100% Luddite!!!

Yeah, in case you didn't know, the word is in common usage in the English language. Anyone can use it when it is apposite. It was apposite...

Yeah that'll be why the majority of people in work and with mortgages voted Remain, and those educated to degree level and higher heavily voted in favour of Remain.

So please enlighten us as to how "many if not most" of the Leave voters were somehow more intelligent?

It's akin to wanting creationism taught in schools. A majority of dolts wouldn't make it right.

Hi dog!

Here we go again.

Give me your full and complete survey samples to back up your contention. Please. Go on, have a go.

You can't.

And you (and anyone else) cannot disprove that those who voted Leave were as intelligent as those who voted Remain.

By the way, I worked solid for 30-odd years, and had a mortgage from the age of 24.

An education to degree level does not carry with it an automatic pass to 'intelligence'. I offer Cameron, Osborne & Johnson as prime examples...
