Waiting for results, we argue about immigration, and the main problem is drunks and druggies in A&E time for them to pay on a credit card IMO it's not fair on the NHS Staff or the genuine patients - thanks for your enquiries and support;)

Hope for good news for you and your family Joey.

Drunks and druggies are symbols of the social decay we have around us. We are the 6th largest economy in the world yet many live in conditions that cause substance abuse and create untreated mental health problems which then access the only available form of care A&E.

Until we address the state of social care in this country the NHS and its patients will carry the burden.

Better resources and provisions in social care would remove some of the burdens on the health service, but as I said recently it's shamefully not a priority for this Government. They'd rather waste their time and resources on a totally unnecessary political stunt called Brexit.

It's a political football the NHS all governments seem to make a mess of it under Labour it improved, but PFI payments are still crippling it along with top down reorganisation
As for Brexit they should just sign article 50 and go with the democratic vote Esk!

in the Medicine field it is widely accepted that social and economic inequality is a primary contributor to poor overall health outcomes, and that health indicators like life expectancy and infant mortality improve as inequality diminishes. this is taught in first year Medical Schools where I grew up.

UK austerity could scarcely get any more nearsighted

Putting that in there is not necessary and is off the mark. The inadequate funding and mismanagement of the NHS is/was not restricted to this government or the coalition. You should look back at the failings of the party you support who were in office for over a decade. I would believe you have access to financial information so how many trusts are saddled with PFI and to what value?

T achieve an adequate funding level what should the government do?

Increase taxation all round?

Cut other spending but what exactly/

Borrow and increase the debt?

Any other ideas?

Your post strikes me as typical Labour comment, we need to do this but declines to say how. I have heard Labour come out with this kind of statement over and over again but refrain from any detail to achieve a resolution of the problem.

a good place to start might be collecting the taxes actually owed under the current rates

but instead, https://www.theguardian.com/politic...rc-customer-service-predicted-due-to-cutbacks

Panama Papers blah blah blah

Thus it ever was, as Hogarth reported in Georgian London ...

That is exactly the kind of comment I have been criticising. Collecting tax loss due to fraud is not an overnight task but takes years so why did Brown not get stuck into it. Look how long the EU took to tackle Google. The whole subject of HMRC failing goes back to Brown with the merger of IR and Customs. There followed that merger huge losses of staff and resources.

why are you assuming it's a partisan comment?

Maybe I misread this. I don't know what i said that was partisan, other than maybe linking to the Guardian.

It is not an overnight task but it is not an especially daunting one either, with a bit of international cooperation, but above all, actual political will.

The likes of Google commenced operating like this over 20 years ago, plus just look at what is being leaked about Ronaldo and Mourinho. When was Ronaldo playing for United and Mourinho managing Chelsea?

Perhaps you should read what I said more carefully. I am saying one of the reasons for such conditions in the NHS is the absence of suitable social care. Social care can be preventative thus reducing costs further down the track. So for example if we had better social care provision mental health patients may find it easier to cope, be less likely to require expensive medication, have substance abuse problems and further physical deterioration caused by depression etc.

Better tax collection, a robust corporation tax structure, prioritising health and social care more in government budgets, stopping vanity projects like HS2 and remaining in the Single Market could all go to stopping the type of situation Joey's family and thousands of others are now facing.
