Immigration is good. It increases economic growth and it fills jobs that Brits don't have the skills to do. It also drives up house prices, thus making us homeowners richer.

I like that bit (in bold). The problem is I and my wife will not benefit from the increased value in our house - but our children will.;)

So the greatest BBC Political interviewer -imo in Andrew Neil gets the numbers wrong???? - I don't think so - you just do not like the numbers as they have blown the argument out of the window in the debate on here!
Sorry Joe but "the greatest political interviewer ever' Andrew Neil ? really ? Do you swallow everything that the BBC tells you ?? Or ITV? etc etc - or any of the press in this country ? George Orwell vindicated via the Ministry of "Disinformation "

The UK is rammed with superb chefs from all over the world!

I have a lot of sympathy with the skill shortage @Joey66 highlighted earlier, and agree that the UK education system has for decades focused far too much on academic rather than vocational prowess.

But isnt that our fault?
No it is the governments of the past decade who feel academic subjects are more important than Vocational skills hence a big gap in skill shortage spot on with you on this my job when I left school was looked down on I met the great Geoff Hamilton of Gardeners world fame - I reached my goal in my trade moving all over the country I had many qualifications in interviews I found it was experience they were interested in !
I was headhunted for my final job, and yes I started at the bottom prepared to work in nursery fields back breaking work it took me 15 years to get my top post - I passed my knowledge on to many apprentices as my old boss passed his skills on to me no wonder his words of prophet was we would become a dying breed in 1972 how correct he was he said son the day will come where yo need a qualification to use the toilet!
Not far off the mark was he?

It is a truism, that there are not that many emergencies or even minor problems that you will need to call a web designer, brand manager, estate agent or investment banker to help out with.

My (step) nephew seems to have followed a similar learning curve as you mate. His Grandad taught him everything/ My local garage has been family owned for 5 generations. I just love that.

The only reason I don't like the numbers you gave is that they don't add up. That may be you quoting them wrong or Andrew Neil reporting them wrong, but they don't add up. Lionel Messi is the best footballer in the world, but I wouldn't get him to do my tax return. Andrew Neil is a political pundit, but if he gave those numbers then he can't add up for toffee.

I have heard other news. Stories his numbers are correct unless theseem to be from the leftish media anyone can crunch numbers but the fact is our immigration is unsustainable ok!

Complain to the BBC he would not produce the figures he did today out of thin air!
Smoke and mirrors Joe....the BBC when I last watched one of their "news' programmes" was presenting assumptions as facts ...they reflect the views of the establishment who feed us what they think we ( the public) want to hear....ie the "ministry of truth" :dodgy:

So the BBC is the ministry of truth what Polictical persuasion are you from umm let me guess............

Esk just I played the BBC DP today here are the figures quoted -
33500 net migration found in June 2016
176000 got jobs
164000 were students
127000 not in the workplace
Romanians take up 1 in 10 jobs so the slating and warnings of Nigel Farage were incorrect his prediction came realistic!
Under the EU human rights act these EU citizens under free movement can not be deported !
those were the absolute figures quoted by Andrew Neil today!

I'm assuming the first figure you quoted should be 335,000, which is the figure quoted on the BBC web-site. According to your other figures, 340,000 either got jobs or were students. This is 5,000 more than the total, so not sure where you get the 127,000 not in the workplace comes from. I must be missing something.

If you have quoted the actual numbers they used then they are wrong as they don't add up.

I wrote the numbers down so listen to it as you are wrong!

Have you added up the numbers yourself? Because the ones you have quoted don't add up. If I am missing something let me know.

Genuinely the maddest conversation so far in this thread.

Remember a poster getting attacked for saying people swallow what the media tell them.
