Current Affairs Environmental Stuff

It's possible to demonstrate and give your cause the airtime you want without breaking the law and endangering people's lives. An approach based on the former is the only way to persuade and not alienate people
Yeah, that's why, after over fifty years of scientific demonstration you're willing to spite the climate and humanity because of a traffic disruption.
Let's face it, you don't really need those protestors to hide behind as an excuse for your behaviour.

Their current approach is clearly ineffective as besides the serious stuff it at a minimum infuriates a large section of society who as a result are far less likely to be sympathetic to their supposed aims. It therefore stands to reason that virtually any other way of demonstrating without endangering lives and livelihoods would be far more effective in gaining a sympathetic hearing for many.

Post WW2 India and the laws of colonial rule aren't the laws operating in Britain today.
What we talking, starting a village fête to raise funds? An eco fairground? Naked bike ride? Public tree hugging spectacle?

We need details man. A strategy. If eco-jihad is to be a success we need people who can help win hearts and minds.

Ps so breaking the law isn't all bad, it's dependent on context and the greater good, right?

My conscience is clear I've always tried to follow advice on the environment and my own home before now. it is precisely their actions that have made me question my own past decisions.

Reading about life saving cancer treatments missed, people losing a days pay they can't afford to miss, job interviews and hospital appointments not made etc etc followed by disruption of crucial oil and food supplies at Dover have made me question my own general compliance.

Why are you asking me for details 'man'? I gave a general approach which is all you can realistically expect in a forum such as this.

I'm not some sort of alternate strategist for their cause and my approach is hardly the joke approach you outlined in your post

Do you know who Ian McAuly is mate? I’ll tell you. He is CEO of southern water who was given a £500,000 bonus after southern water were found guilty of dumping raw sewage into our seas.
Jean-Sébastien Jacques, Rio Tinto CEO. 7 million bonus after desecrating ancient aboriginal grounds.
The list goes on,
Yet I don’t see any posts of ire against people like this from yourself on this thread. Instead your chosen target is some people blocking a road. You can see why myself and other posters might find this a bit odd?

Perhaps it's the far higher profile the current headline news stories have that makes them come to people's attention. Of course the world has lots of issues besides the one that is leading news bulletins but it's not at all surprising that I would comment on that before any other.

Because I sense leadership qualities in you maaaan. You can save the planet. Save us Chris, you can do it!
You can ridicule by all means, this site is full of posters who will give your views the confirmation bias you might seek. This site hardly reflects general public opinion on current affairs and alienating large sections of public opinion rarely achieves much.

It’s almost as if big business would rather people get annoyed with the protestors rather than the people destroying the climate themselves?

Thankfully, the media is controlled by completely impartial people with absolutely no vested interest in things like big business or political parties.

Let’s just sack off the climate change stuff because a handful of cranks are annoying af.

Hi mate,

I'm a bit lost now. I'm genuinely interested in how you'd approach garnering public support via a mass movement in relation to one of the most pressing issues of our age. Bit disappointed by this response.

I'm not sure what confirmation bias is either. Or how it applies to this context. Would you mind explaining please?

I've stuff to do and have to get on with it now, my posts aren't difficult to understand, disappointing to you or not.

Well, howabart something like 25pc of London schools and transport under threat of flooding ? That's probably easily baked in to global warming now. How many will miss their chemo/essential surgery/jobs then? And even if we divert finite resources to try 'save London' from the inevitable, I'm sure that will impact the resources available elsewhere in the UK, disrupting their jobs/chemo/surgery on a far larger scale.

I know they've done well for themselves, but Johnson and Richard Madeley aren't the intellectual heavyweights we've all been led to believe. They're grifters.

It is though. The thread has been open a while without comment from yourself and as soon as that story appears you’re straight in. I mean you’re not the only one. Just find it weird that’s all.
