Enraged me this when I found out. Went to see it last year. A natural monument and should main headline news. Sure if someone knocked down some tinpot statue of Churchill or someone that would be.

Hadn't heard of this tree, but that's really disgusting. Absolutely senseless. Probably one of those big two person saws?? I suspect that even if the folks are caught, there are probably not very stiff penalties for that crime, sort of like animal cruelty--usually a fine or a month (max) in jail, or something way-too-small.

I’d be surprised if the tree isn’t listed as a monument or has some special protections or something. It’s a huge tourist attraction and is a pretty special landmark.

I know that area fairly well. Unless someone has drove from Newcastle in the middle of the night will have been some pissed up local kids who will get grassed pretty quick. Such a mad thing to do.

Assuming you have entirely made that up? As can’t see anything anywhere that that is the case (not saying it isn’t but I can’t see anything to say it is)

A 16 year old kid has been arrested.
