Yeah, i've hundred's of trees dead/dying that I put in over winter. The late wet (flooded) Spring changed to dry like someone flicked a light switch -- plants didn't have time to establish a basic root system. I didn't have to water our horticulture at all last year as the deep mulch keep enough moisture in. I had to change tack drastically this year, otherwise we'd have lost it all.

Nice weather for flouncing around like, but harsh on the environment. Let's hope we get plenty of rain if we have another uber-hot Summer.

LABOUR’S HYDROGEN BUS BREAKS DOWN ON WAY TO GREEN EVENT, REPLACED BY DIESEL

Today Sir Keir is holding his launch event for his fourth big “mission”, which is supposed to be a green power revolution stuffed with eco-friendly policies. To kick things off, hacks were to arrive at the event up in Leith in a clean, hydrogen powered bus. Unfortunately, it broke down… only to be replaced by a diesel.

To make matters worse, the driver of the gas-guzzling replacement bus then took a wrong turn on the way to the venue and got lost somewhere in Edinburgh. According to the Mail, one of their own reporters had to guide the confused driver to the correct spot. A Labour spokesperson confirmed their bus provider had a few ‘problems’ with the eco-friendly vehicle, although didn’t go into any further detail. How did Sir Keir get to Scotland today? Did he fly?

Democracy in action. Habermas' theory of communicative action par excellence. The life world unchained.

I for one am very grateful for their insights and corrective arguments. Saves us from our own echo chamber.

EARTH SHATTERING if true

That's it. Quit trying to save the planet. The wheels have fallen off the bus :(

Belied by the fact 5 people responded to it.

I read that and thought it was topical what with people talking up this industrial wrecking green future of fantasy cheap, reliable technologies - and then the only time anybody's asked to go on a hydrogen bus, for a special photo op, it breaks down. Sir Keir knew this instinctively and has decided to expose this fraud by rolling one out ... but then the nutter went on to talk about on shore wind farms. More good news for China ... we're the only suckers that buy such crap.

Environmentalism is indeed full of contradictions. Often influenced by needs and logic of capitalism and particular industries. Did you know aviation companies fly empty planes to retain commercial flight routes? Mad, huh?

Oh my mistake, I thought it was a post about a bus breaking down.

You make a good point though, a bus not using fossil fuels has broken down so we should stop trying to save the environment.

That is your point isn't it?

Not sure how good your reading skills are, but I just quoted a study from Volvo above that showed to produce these "environmentally saving" technologies costs 70% more in emissions than a diesel or petrol car ...

Did you? I must have missed that, I'll go and have a look

I was responding to your post about a bus breaking down though 🤷‍♂️

Just for you sugar.

Right? So we are going to cut loads of jobs, send them all to China, then import cars from China (because E ones will be naff). We are going to do all that with what are likely to be more expensive, less reliable cars and best of all they aren't even as environmentally friendly as a petrol car? Did I get that right? You have to do 40000 miles to break even (at which time you no doubt are well on the way to needing a new battery for an EV car with all the costs of maintaining it with specialist manufacturers).

So even though we emit <1%, we are going to make this enormous sacrifice on the back of an analysis that shows there's hardly any savings to emissions at all... I salute your vision for the country, to make us poorer, weaker and less productive. The politicians of this age are breathtaking in their stupidity to embrace this foolishness.
Is this the report you are referring to?
Volvo report

Because that one concludes that at 200,000 kms, the CO2 emissions from the manufacture and running of EVs and ICE are even, anything beyond that and the EVs are the clear winners.

Now, when you consider the ICE has been around for over a hundred years with very little improvement in efficiency, and EVs have only been around a few years and are showing exponential improvements in both manufacture and range, surely it would take an idiot to suggest we stick with ICE rather than focus on EVs which will require less and less co2 to build every year?

Aye, think TL is cherry picking his points here.

However, there is a wider argument about what could be termed 'offset'. By focusing on one environmental catastrophe linked to emissions, the solution requires mining and industrial processes to extract the required materials that are environmentally catastrophic in other ways. I.e. one problem is offset for another.

Now, I'm not saying we should not look for solutions (as our man appears to be), but there are genuine questions about how we best protect our planet. Our woes are inherently linked to over-consumption. Many of the current solutions seem to focus on retaining consumption levels and only focusing on emissions.
