I have been to Liverpool. Its no different then going to any city. And Port Sunlight is only 100 years old, so how can it be Tudor?

Thing is. Liverpool is populated by English people, they speak English and guess what they are English. Scouse is a term of endearment, not a race of people.

Breaking the habit of a lifetime, but I have to give HB a bit of support here. I reckon Liverpool is a very "Celtic" city. We all know about the Irish influence, but the Welsh were probably an even bigger influence than them. Welsh names are predominant in Liverpool phone directories I remember reading somewhere. And how many cities have given rise to Irish and Scottish regiments?

I wouldn't go as far as to say Liverpool 'isn't English', but I do wonder sometimes when I see the stick we get from the rest of England why I should give a toss about them.

I can see what you're getting at, and I like the fact that your definition of English is 'inclusive' and you have no hesitation in including Ossie (half Turkish Cypriot).
And I think the BNP jibe was below the belt.

But you're missing a couple of important points.
Firstly Everton have been fielding non English players (Scots, Irish, Welsh) almost since day one. That's our tradition.

Secondly, If your definition of English is simply one of what passport you carry, then why not include Vic in your line up? Or indeed Arteta - who having lived here 5 years is just a few filled forms away from being eligible. As is anyone who's been in the country long enough to apply for nationality. Britain as a country has always welcomed migrants - that's our heritage. Why discriminate against someone who - like Vic who grew up here and carries an English passport, wants the chance of international football with the national team of another country? Would you want to remove Ossie is he opted to represent Cyprus, or Turkey?

I do agree that it would be a good move to limit clubs to the number of 'foreign' players in their squad, and to insist on some players from the locality of the club, but I suspect that it will be as difficult to administer as the current system which limits non EU players to capped Internationals who have played in a certain percentage of international fixtures.
Globalisation - doesn't stop at Starbucks. And even removing the TV money won't turn the clock back.

i can understand this "we're not english we are scouse" business, but only on the basis that the country neglected the area so the people now say feck you to the rest. thing is though it wasnt just the city of liverpool that suffered in those years, the whole of the north west suffered, you probably never leave the city limits hb as speak like a xenophobe, you will probably reply with "i couldnt give a flying feck about anywhere else".

what you have said though is absolute utter sh1te, the north west of england can boast technological breakthroughs that led the world, it was the cradle of the industrial revolution, it has "the lake district" which it appears that you have never visited from your post. you speak with the intelligence of a kopite.
