Talk about insensitivity and bad timing.

Both clubs should wait, then get together and decide on a sum payable directly to the players family.
My thought as I live in Nantes

Yes, it can be seen as insensitive / bad timing, but trying to join the dots....

Cardiff have likely leaked this story. No need for that to have happened. It could have all stayed under wraps. Trying to curry sympathy, clearly.

Cardiff are likely playing hardball. Their stance of "we want to wait until all the facts are known" = insurance won't payout until there is a death certificate so we don't want to pay until we get the payout

FC Nantes are truly skint. They took 2 players on loan in the window and probably have loan fees to pay

Bordeaux are due half the money and may be turning the screw on Nantes

Nantes likely wouldn't be suing unless there was a good reason to believe Cardiff are trying to worm their way out of paying

at the end of the day, it's not a nice situation but Cardiff are to blame here

Would think cockpit would be easier to access than the main part of the plane, unless there is structural damage and the main body is somehow open with the passenger still strapped in. I assume both men were still in the plane and both will ultimately be recovered. I hope so, anyway.

How do you know all this? You are just completely guessing that Cardiff are trying to worm their way out of paying. The facts are they have demanded the money when they hadn't even recovered the body or wreckage yet. It's shocking in my opinion. Least wait till this part is done for the families sake and then discuss.

If I buy a vase from a shop, walk outside and drop it, the shop shouldn't have to refund it.

Same principle. It's a tragedy but Cardiff should pay.

Weirdly that’s exactly the analogy I used when talking about this situation to somebody yesterday.

Cardiff are absolutely Liable although I suspect they know that and are just trying to drag things out for a bit knowing the insurance is going to take a while to resolve . After the clubs public outpouring of grief though it leaves a bit of a nasty taste .

i don't know, but as with 99.9 % on this forum, it's my opinion. But, thinking logically about it - why would one business threaten legal action to another business over lack of payment? Why would FC Nantes feel the need to sue unless Cardiff had indicated they may not fulfil the terms of sale, at least without a significant delay?

To be honest, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth hearing some of the things from Cardiff. Cardiff saying they are focusing on the family - implying that FC Nantes are not. Like I said, I live in Nantes, I go the games, and I witnessed how the city rallied around the club and the family.

We will agree to disagree on this. I have no issue with Nantes eventually asking for it but I agree with Cardiff it's hardly the time to start demanding money when they are pulling wreckage and a body from the water. I mean two people died ffs and two families are mourning and all they are bothered about is money. Shocking if you ask me. Least leave it till the families know who the person was in the water.

I don’t know a fee was agreed and should have already been processed, it’s not like Cardiff are simply too upset to do the paperwork. People are dead and that’s dreadful but the wages at Nantes still have to be paid , the business they did following this transfer still has to be followed through , however difficult life continues and I say that as somebody who like all of us has lived with loss.

I’ll agree it feels a little distasteful to think of a man whose lost his life as a number on a balance sheet but sadly that seems to be the world of football.

That wasn't my point though was it. I said Cardiff should have to pay but demanding for money like they have at this current time when it's a tragic loss is just in very poor taste. The families have both lost someone in terrible circumstances and don't think they want to be hearing arguing about money about a loved one. More important things at this current time. Nantes should have waited till the wreckage was out the water and the families told who the body was and then a few days after this speak to Cardiff. Few days wouldn't have mattered. It's about being respectful to the families involved.

I can see that point but we aren’t privy to the conversations that are taking place , you’d assume given the figures involved on an extremely regular basis . My guess would be Cardiff are going to wait for the insurance and maybe they’ve made that clear forcing or at least prodding Nantes into this action , I do take your point though .
