By all accounts he was a very modest, humble and down to earth player that likes to just roam around Nantes and use the local cafes. Perhaps he just isn’t into anything flash like private jets.
I'd honestly never heard of him until yesterday.
But as you say, everyone seems to have liked the lad.

Cardiff City have said they hadn't arranged any transportation for him as he arranged it himself. I can only imagine he was trying to save a few quid by going for a cheaper option rather than paying for the luxury private jet we expect most Premier league players to use.

It was probably just a chartered flight that flew in local to Nantes and regularly did cross-channel crossings.

I'm no plane expert, but it seems pretty normal for a little puddle-jumper to be doing that crossing. It's what, an hourish?

Probably not the weather to do it in and you'd have thought the relevant authorities would have stopped it taking off, though.

Indeed, and as you would imagine, there is no Nantes to Cardiff direct flight with any commercial airline. The wooden plane was probably the best and quickest option.

In hindsight, however, obviously not.

I will be honest and say ive not heard of this player before, and i am a little surprised that they say they were working on the theory that hes survived on a raft which seems a bit bizzare to say that,i could be wrong but think they are saying that more in hope because they think they may know what people are seemly now accepting

Really sad situation this. I am a little surprised that Cardiff City didn't insist on a commercial flight.
It does seem a little odd that they have not organised anything for there new player to arrive when he was due to arrive the next morning for training, even more so when its confirmed that the agent/player etc sorted himself out by the sound of it

Booked through his reps, it looks like Wille McKay (an agent) owned the plane, and he was involved in the deal somewhere.

Cardiff offered to book him on a commercial flight or their private planes but he refused as it was a personal trip.

Very, very sad.

Wonder if the agent was on the plane?

Well, they're looking for survivors.

The only way that they survived is on a raft, really. It's not likely they're on a ship, it's highly unlikely they're on land, and unfortunately even if they had managed a decent water landing - which is unlikely - if they had no access to a raft then it's very unlikely they'll be found at all I'd imagine, never mind alive.

It's horrible, but if they're looking for survivors then they have to prioritise searching for a raft as that's the only logical way they could still be alive.

Yep mate.

Also just been confirmed the pilot is a British father of three.

You have to remember that the pilot would be risking his own life if he flew a plane he thought was unsafe, which makes it very unlikely. Not saying it was a brand new lear jet or anything, but he will have done safety checks.

Too many pilots are “cowboys” as we call them over here. Like the footballer who never apologizes for shooting because they believe every shot is going on. Complacency could play a role too.

Airline safety is a result of redundancy and the greatest redundancy is two pilots.
