Musk’s net worth now stands at $203 billion, down roughly 25% since the beginning of the year.

The new owner of Twitter said in a statement on the day the deal closed that he “didn’t do it to make more money” but rather to “try to help humanity.” As part of the deal, Musk was personally responsible for paying roughly $25 billion, while venture capital firms Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz chipped in about $7.1 billion in cash. Additional investors picked up the remaining amount.

Down to his last $203 billion, practically brassic.

That's fair enough. Elon Musk has aspergers and as such can come across as a massive bellend, he is on the other hand (in my opinion) a visionary. Weirdly he doesn’t think companies should “think twice about entering the political arena” if they are donating to his campaign funds - just if they are exercising their free speech rights to reduce advertising on a platform.

After the layoffs, we asked some of the employees who had been cut what they made of the process. They told us that they had been struck by the cruelty: of ordering people to work around the clock for a week, never speaking to them, then firing them in the middle of the night, no matter what it might mean for an employee’s pregnancy or work visa or basic emotional state.

More than anything they were struck by the fact that the world’s richest man, who seems to revel in attention on the platform they had made for him, had not once deigned to speak to them.

“It'll stick with me forever that he never addressed the employees even once before firing half of us,” one longtime employee who was laid off today told me. Further to this, a guy i know who's in that world told me the direction from Musk and his team was to rank all the developers on how many lines of code they'd written in the last year and fire the bottom 20%.


So at a stroke he's removed everybody working on complex, long term projects. Bravo.

It’s such an annoying discourse. They literally just want to be able to do racism, homophobia, transphobia and anti semitism with impunity. It’s the same with “cancel culture” it doesn’t even exist, it’s just the fact that in the real world there are consequences for your actions.

They’re all just bigoted little dweebs who think that Musk is their messiah because he posts memes and “owns the left”.
