His SpaceX nonsense is more of a childish fantasy than his mismanagement of Tesla and Twitter. I mean who the heck would want to go to Mars to live in a small box and eat green sludge out of a pouch while doing menial labor? So so so terrifically stupid.

People like Edmund Hillary, George Mallory, Reinhold Messner...they're out there (in more ways than one).

Certainly. I’ve got nothing against daring and brave explorers/mountaineers, but at least these guys are leading the treks, not just planning them from a boardroom, (or talking half-assed about them on a stage full of fans). Musk doesn’t seem willing to go on the first flight to Mars, if at all.

Does feel like he’s believed his own hype with this twitter buy out, way more public scrutiny than when we was just making cars and spaceships.
Would love to know the ins and outs of what went on behind the scenes when he changed his mind only for the courts to basically force him to go through with purchase.
Anyone know how much of his personal wealth is tied up in this deal?

The new owner of Twitter said in a statement on the day the deal closed that he “didn’t do it to make more money” but rather to “try to help humanity.” As part of the deal, Musk was personally responsible for paying roughly $25 billion, while venture capital firms Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz chipped in about $7.1 billion in cash. Additional investors picked up the remaining amount.

He's just an ideas person, like Jobs was...but it's a very expensive field that was the domain of govts but captured the imagination of the general public so he'll never be short on employees. We'll see what he's really like with the first highly publicized accident that causes a loss of life, because it WILL happen. I appreciate what they've done with the whole landing a rocket thing but there's no room for mistakes and avoiding them is damn near impossible.

$203b is an absolutely obscene amount of personal wealth

Just another tech fad/bust....would've died with or without out his involvement. Lotus 1-2-3, Novell Netware, America Online and a whole shytload of platforms all say hello.

Never get married to any of it.
