The writings on the wall... Anyone who has even the slightest shred of self-respect, dignity and integrity wouldn't want to go anywhere near that clown.

Yikes, wasn't aware of such a drop off. Wife's thinking about getting something on battery next time but when it can be sub zero here for a month, it might not be a good idea. Maybe aim for a hybrid.
It's funny because it's Musk's baby, but I'm curious to know if other auto manufacturers experience similar issues.

It's a physics problem as I understand it, so should be common. Always suspected the range claims on EVs would need to be taken with a pinch of salt, similar to MPG claims on ICE cars.

A hybrid may not be a bad idea. Apparently Toyota's latest self charging hybrid cars are excellent.

That's the problem isn't it? You sense nowadays that that Musk being such a bell is causing a lot of people to yaboo an entire technology, which isn't ideal as the technology is rather important.

Indeed. Hopefully it just dents Tesla's reputation and his wallet.

Maybe not the thread for it, but there's a ton of investment in battery tech r&d and industry momentum so you'd hope range, lifespan and so forth improves as technology does.

Having said that I do worry a bit that electric is a bit 'eggs in one basket' which Govts appear to have favoured. Arguably hydrogen powered vehicles could have been dual tracked in terms of development. Maybe there is still a future there for long haul or commercial vehicles.

Easier said than done, it all costs and the infrastructure changes required for both are far from insignificant for manufacturers and governments.

A modern day Thomas Jefferson. Yip he was also a dick who claimed others peoples inventions as his own.

But don't worry... Karma is real and Musky will get his one day.

In and of itself that's not a problem, as Google didn't invest the search engine or Apple the smartphone. Indeed, most innovation today is "recombinative" and either builds on or applies what already exists in new ways. So implementation has value over and above mere invention. If he actually delivered an electric passenger aircraft then no one would really care whether he invented the technology or not. I suppose the problem is the gap between his rhetoric and what he actually is delivering is pretty significant and it makes him seem like a complete huckster.

I reckon his demise will be a vain attempt to convince people he's not an idiot. After his reputation falls through the floor, he will make a grand gesture of becoming the first man to go to mars. He will of course live stream his journey on his new Elon channel, after twitter collapsed. He will force his engineers to rush development of the space x rocket to make sure he beats NASA, who stopped working with him after realising he's a cretin. We will get to see his space ship fail and watch a blubbering Elon deliver a tirade of nonsensical racist vitriol about how he is the greatest while he spins off into the void and eventually runs out of oxygen. It will be glorious.

Yeah, thsts the issue I have.

His every boast about the greats leaps his companies have made (unarguable) is lapped up by fanboys, and it simply encourages him to chat more and more wham.

I'm sure he needs any more reassurance of his status, isn't his flock of kids is proof enough? :coffee:

Big fan of electric here, but not a big fan of Tesla.

Subzero still works fine - Hyundai (Kona)'s I've driven do see a drop obviously but on newer models there's also a preheater for the battery so it effectively doesn't run cold until it gets to operating temperatures.

Seeing as turning on AC is -20km on the 260km version, cold start, subzero, AC on is still at about 220-230 and it replenishes.

On newer models it's apparently negligible because of the recuperation systems.

That said, yeah, hybrid for availability. Both Toyota and Hyundai's new cars have good hybrid systems and nearly all new cars are some form of mild-hybrid on them for slow driving and starts.

Also yeah range on EVs is under ideal conditions, similar to how MPG is written. You'll seldom get ideal conditions when driving though - it's not always smooth acceleration in an almost straight line with no interruptions and in perfect weather lol I've got friends who always drive the speed limit on the highway (~140kmh; 90-100mph) so they say it's not as accurate always because overtaking/slowing down etc. and smaller packs don't really perform amazingly at 140ish kmh to begin with and it just eats battery power.

Not to mention most conventional car's optimal mpg is around 50-60mph so when you hit highway speeds you'll get the drop off in range.

What's the charging infrastructure like in Bulgaria?

My Jeep got optimal mileage at about 120kmh (~80mph) for what it's worth, but big engine and all that.

Decent in Sofia, highways have a few charging stations (at bigger places) nowadays, and growing. Usually a few in just about any town - shops like Lidl/Kaufland/Billa have parking lot chargers too, even if it's just a few. You don't have to big brain plan to drive across the country like, and a lot of people are switching to full electric because of it. Right now though ELECTRIC VEHICLE (because "the ЕV" turns to "Everton" FFS) prices are utterly stupid so make of that what you will lol

The Kona mentioned isn't my own (YET????) - rental company here does full electric so I rent with them; similar price to ICE but bigger cars.
