2022/23 Ellis Simms

The way I see it, there is only room for one of him and Cannon and Cannon has shown more promise, playing at a higher level than Simms was at his age and bagging goals. Simms can get us a fee, Cannon is worth hanging on to for a year or two to see if he can kick on or we sell him on.

Personally think they're both the same, not one edging the other. Canon needs another loan.

Simms has scored where ever he's been. Yet gets starts away at Liverpool, United, and Chelsea and deemed "not good". Never a chance against a Bournemouth or Southampton etc.

Again, not saying it'll be a loss, but I don't get the Canon hype.

He has 12 months left on his contract, he isn't a kid anymore and he's not made the breakthrough and whilst i think the kid hasn't been given much of a chance to really show what's he's capable of... he's been in and around the first team for a while and the last 3 managers have all passed on him and Sean Dyche especially, pragmatic and desperate for goals choosing to not use him more speaks volumes.
The kid clearly knows where the goal and may go on to be a stalwart of the lower leagues but I'm yet to see anything to suggest he has the tools to be a premierleague striker.
If we can get 5m for him then you take the money, wish him luck (if you're smart you include a buy back just in case he proves me wrong) and move on. That's what the academy is for and if we can do that 3/4 a season that's potentially 15m+ generated from players we aren't going to miss.

That goal against Chelsea shows there's something there but we desperately need someone who can hit the ground running. Simms and Cannon as 3rd and 4th choice would be fine. We need a ready made striker if we can afford it and that's looking increasingly grim. Cannon looks more mobile though and seems cool in front of goal.
Think most of us would be hoping 4and 5th choice with DCL as third choice due to injuries

We are not signing two strikers capable of relegating DCL to third choice , unless you think we are Man City.
Really dont mean it like that but unless his injury record improves we are going to need two forward in to do the business we cant afford just one in, remember they can be loans, but 1 forward and he gets injured then we are were we were last season

Don’t understand why we are selling him for peanuts

Liverpool sold solanke for 19 mil to
Bournemouth back in 2019 and he had 1 goal in 21 games for Liverpool and 8 career goals. Simms has 26 career goals.

It just is what it is, back when we had more of a rep of bringing through good players we flogged Jack Rodwell for almost 20 mil. All depends on the perceptions of the club, it also doesn't help that it's well known that we are cash strapped, so other club's will know that we can't afford to not sell.

Because he’s not that good. Pretty simple.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but where has this take come from? Every loan he has had he has scored goals. He was a prolific goalscoarer at youth level. He was instrumental in helping to get Blackpool promoted and if he had not been recalled may have even achieved the same kind of success with Sunderland. He was recalled at the worst time possible when we had just fired Lampard the whole team was disjointed and we were joint bottom of the league. He was then pushed into the first team and was given starts against some of the toughest teams in the league because DCL had injury problems and maupay couldn’t score and then would be dropped. He was never given any consistent run in the first team. Despite all of this he still scored an banger against Chelsea. He played 219 minutes in 11 games which is around 20 minutes on average per game. What are you expecting him to do? There is a good player in there worth keeping imo.

For context on price, Arsenal are looking to sell Balogun for around 30 mil. This is a player who we are linked with and went on loan to Middlesborough and scored 3 goals in 20 appearances. Middlesborough one of the more established teams in the Championship. Simms scored 7 goals in 17 games for newly promoted Sunderland in the Championship. The reason why Balogun's fee has inflated considerably since then is because he went on loan to Reims and scored 22 goals for them. So would Simms only justify a price tag above 6 mil if he went on loan to a french team and scored 20 goals as well?

A gamble to rely on a kid in the situation we have found ourselves in over the the last 2 seasons.

Season before those 2, we were flying high with DCL banging them in. When is he supposed to get his chance?

Would love to see him start some games with no pressure on the result and see what he does. Not worth selling at 5 mil. Who on earth could we replace him with for 5 mil?

Would rather sell Maupay...
