IF we can afford him, the thing in our favour is that we are getting a reputation for bringing though young players, and giving them a chance.
It makes us look a far more attractive option. They will get a chance to play most weeks, rather than sit on the bench or in the reserves.

Good point mate. It's worked for us with a few of our signings so far, Orenuga and Shkodran Mustafi I think both mentioned that as reasons why they signed.

He seems very right footed to me, and from what I have seen of him, operates primarily from the left wing.

It infuriated me when Moyes would stick Andy van der Meyde on the left flank when he was far more potent on the right swinging first time balls in. Total waste in my opinion and I think it would infuriate me just as much to see this lad on the left.

I'd keep Pienaar and Baines there and put Elia on the right so we have an outlet. Pienaar is different in that he quite often goes right to the corner flag on the left despite being right footed. Van der Meyde would quite often run there, then jink back onto his right foot.

We could quite easily switch Elia and Pienaar depending on which side of the pitch was getting stretched the most, then exploit the opposition with Elia's pace on the break a la Aston Villa and Ashley Young, something we don't have the luxury of doing at the moment.

Did anyone see Darijo Srna last night for Shakhtar? Could he be a candidate for our right-wing position? He certainly has the workrate.

Mind you, on youtube you can make almost everyone look at least half decent. Eljerio Elia though is an enormous talent and I'd love to have him at Everton. Think he'd profit enormously with the chance/prospect of playing almost every week, instead of being an up and coming starlet in a top teams squad. Called up for the Dutch (provisional) squad for the first time this friday.

Hamburg win race for Elia

Hamburg have emerged victorious in the race to bag talented FC Twente forward Eljero Elia.
The 22-year-old former Den Haag front-man netted 11 league goals in 64 appearances for ex-England boss Steve McClaren's side since arriving in 2007, and impressed in Twente's UEFA Cup tie with Manchester City last season.

His form had led to reported interest in the youngster's services from Mark Hughes' Blues, as well as Everton, Spurs, Bayern Munich and Ajax.

However, Elia has opted to snub all of them in favour of a move to Hamburg, who have agreed a fee in the region of €9million.

"I am very happy it's worked out. HSV is a fantastic club that is playing a major role in Germany," he told Algemeen Dagblad.

"I want to thank Twente and [chairman] Joop Munsterman for making this transfer possible.

"I am also very thankful to the club for the chances I got the last two seasons. Thanks to Twente I have made it to the Dutch national team.

"At HSV I hope to take a new step in my development and hope to stay in the Dutch squad ahead of the World Cup. My dream is to play in South Africa in 2010."

This guy would cost in excess of 12 to 15M GBP.

Not a chance of him ever coming here.

Next !!!

He's a lesser, Dutch version of Nani ain't he? From what I've seen of him thats the way he comes across.

Wouldn't mind him but he's small!
