Transfer Rumour Eliaquim Mangala

Based on what?

The 250+ appearances for City, Porto and Standard?

The £50m+ teams have paid for him?

The 8 France caps he’s earned?

Or the 5 minutes you’ve seen him on MOTD?

Honestly, watch him play a few games for City. He is genuinely really bad.

He's been a calamity at City.

If he comes in we have to judge him only on that, I suppose. But there;'s no one here (despite their words) who would have had this name on the tip of their tongue going into the transfer window. It's make do and mend and we all know it.

...not sure it’s ‘make do’. It would be make do if we were desperate for a CB but it doesn’t appear we were. It sounds more like this fella became available and Allardyce wanted him.

Now we just have to wait and see if Mangala wants to give up a guaranteed league winners medal to come and play for one of the worst teams in the league. :celebrate:

He adds much needed height and strength to the CB department. If he only needs to what a defender must do which is defending hopefully he will be a good addition.

We could buy the universally acclaimed finest football player on the planet and we would still get the "experts" on here decaring that he's crap and not good enough for Everton lollollol

..I think it’s understandable that folk have a view. Personally, I rarely comment because it should all be about who the manager wants to fit the team model. Let the manager bring in who he wants, then he’s accountable.

Maybe we should just judge him on what he does for us.

my opinion - hes an improvement on jags / williams .. he is very yobo with the ball at his feet

but hes fast / very strong and good in the air which is what imo we have been lacking down the left side .. he done decent at valencia , no harm in this loan if he is terrible then we have mori to fill in when hes fit

Williams and Jags are done. Keane off form since arriving. Holgate raw. Funes Mori just not good. All are making mistakes (except Mori cos he is injured) in turn this season too so a CB is pressing other than the obvious lb position.

Make do is a bit harsh.

To be fair it’s not like we’re signing Southampton’s third choice right back here. He’s one of the most expensive defenders in the world who has simply struggled to hold down a place in one of the best teams in the world.
