Transfer Rumour Eliaquim Mangala

I've spoken to 3 city fans today, all 3 laughed when i said about playing him LB. Is it possible we're going to try 3 at the back instead? They found it hilarious that we'd trust him at LB.

Dozens of posts saying “we don’t need a centre back....”
This, after there are THOUSANDS of posts saying williams and jags are finished!!!!

We are desperate for a CB, a left sided one at that

This guy plays how Sam wants and walks into our team

Some of you are properly odd

Just give you my view as a City fan, Manga's a no nonsence centre back not a left back, bit like Douglas Bader, great in thr air but crap on the ground. Certainly no Ashley Williams with the ball!

I remember Lukaku tearing him to pieces a few years ago at Goodison. There is no way this guy can play left back. It must be to cover CB.

Come on the forum after a break from the Sam brigade for a couple of weeks to see the situation with Mangala.

Same old faces in here still talking about Sam yawn, get a life, deal with it, no matter how much you batter people’s heads into depression on this forum nothing will change.

As for Mangala, you know a defensive line is bad when you stop defending your six yard and try and be more expansive, and the whole lot of them have been found out massively including Holgate, so Mangala is a welcome addition.

Haha - nice one. Sakho has quality and I would be happy to see him join.

There’s 9 teams between us and the relegation zone all of whom are piss poor with lesser talented players than us! I don’t believe we ever were or will be in a relegation fight this season (even with meathead at the helm)

I mostly agree, but did you watch all the Everton vs Saints game? It was the first time this season when I thought "actually like this we could be bottom 6".

Realictic expectations for season
Unchanged: we've picked up in spells since, but the Christmas list and run of games against better opposition has brought some reality back to our expectations again. I said we'll be mid-table (9-12). I'll go 10th and bet that one of West Ham or Palace pip us for 9th.

Hopeful expectations for season
If we rally, then the silver linings that might break our way are
  • Burnley run out of gas and are catchable
  • Leicester lose Mahrez and are catchable
  • We bag 7th and fluke a Euro place to the collectively raised eyebrows of nearly a whole city.
I actually think that's worth £20. what are we right now 10-1?

He's a joke of a player at City, but played as a traditional CB for us he might just find the form that they spent £40m for.

Please say he isn't the left back we're getting..

I've slated almost every signing we've for about 18 months.

However quite happy with Mangala.

It is a loan deal.
He fills a position that needs filling.
He is left footed
It isn't as though the players he will be replacing are in massively good form either.

I'd rather have him than not and he won't bankrupt us, which is a pretty low bar but that makes him better than most of our recent signings.

It's the sort of signing we need to do more of, and not think we are above taking outcasts or loaning people to see if they fit in rather than whacking big fees down.
