Im sort of torn between this; if Rodgers was still Swansea manager would this issue have been highlighted by anyone, if the answer is no then what wrong has he done. Being involved in football he should have known what the rag was all about, but not being from the city, and not being diretcly affected, would he have really cared considering they were offering money towards the charity. He wanted money for this and the **** wanted sponsorship.

That paper can burn to the ground for all I care; but if people are still stuck on this then technically no player or future manager who does a piece in that rag, whether in the form of an interview or column, should ever play for Everton again.

The issue surrounds the liverpool fans and their in abaility to accept this; like Sheeds said if was Ferguson, Neville, Moyes etc there would be uproar; but on the other hand what do people expect Rodgers to do, the money went to a good cause, if it was for personal profit he could have donated it to Hillsborough Fund, but it wasn't

Well that's the core issue, according to some it's okay for people outside of Liverpool not to value justice for the 96 ahead of getting some sponsorship money or buying a s**t paper.

There was me thinking we're supposed to be a nation of people who support each other. Only when it suits apparently.

Of course we're not though. In an ideal world we would be but do you honestly think that when it's not in the news, Hillsborough even crosses the mind of 99% of the country?

Like I've said, it should but it doesn't. It's just the world we live in.

The Sun never apologised for what they did, even though it was known for years that they were in the wrong, yet people outside of Liverpool choose to value getting a bit of gossip and news, or getting some sponsorship money, over the principle of remembering that.

Anybody who pretends to care at all about football and football fans should refuse to buy the Sun or promote it, doesn't matter where you're from. The took a massive sh*t on 96 dead people and by wearing that shirt or buying the Sun, regardless of where you're from, you are placing your own desire to read some utter garbage paper over protecting the memories of the 96 people who they blamed. By wearing that T-Shirt he has effectively said 'I value getting sponsorship money over the memory and reputation of 96 dead people', and that's wrong.

It didn't affect peoples newspaper buying habits outside of Liverpool in the 12 months after Hillsborough, so why would you expect that over 20 years later it'd still be a consideration for people outside of Liverpool when choosing their red top?

You've reached your own personal judgement on how you view the Sun based on where you live, as you've been educated as to what happened & the role that the paper played in it's aftermath. It's ridiculous to suggest that a lad your age living in say Birmingham, would have the same level of knowledge, passion or interest in that issue.

Just because the majority do something doesn't stop it being wrong.

Besides, Rodgers is in a completely different situation, he's been a football manager for years. I'm sure you could find some little snippets of him gushing over Liverpool after he was hired, saying what a great club they are and how great their history is blah blah blah. When it comes down to it though, he obviously wasn't that arsed about Hillsborough. For a person who makes their living from managing a football team that's wrong, imo.

The fact that it's a totally different situation completely changes the principal.

The Sun never apologised for what they did, even though it was known for years that they were in the wrong, yet people outside of Liverpool choose to value getting a bit of gossip and news, or getting some sponsorship money, over the principle of remembering that.

I reckon his thinking on this was more mundane than that - that he knew (as ALL people in the game know) that the Sun had a negative association, but it simply didn't register that high enough to set alarm bells ringing about being part of a publicity drive for them by wearing a t-shirt. In other words, and when all's said and done, he simply didn't give a shiny one about it...and that's the thing: we now have him as manager of Liverpool and their supporters who have led decades long campaigns against that rag appear to be intent on convincing themselves it didn't really matter that he couldn't be arsed to give that stunt some thought.

The reaction to this is bewildering to me. It's so obviously a complete **** up in terms of consistency it'd be laughable if it wasn't so serious.

The simple truth is that United dont sing about Hillsboro

Heysel songs yes (Murderers) but Hillsboro songs no way after years of en masse Munich songs we should actually get some credit for not responing in kind ( Apart from the odd [Poor language removed])

Anyway to prove this Google / You tube 'Liverpool sing Munich' and its an avalanche loads and loads of footage of 'Whose that dying on the runway' etc

Google / You tube 'United sing Hillsboro' nothing absolutely **** all

See You tube link below ****ing endless Munich stuff

RIP the 96

Not as much but your 'always the victim' chant WAS about hillsborough.

Youve also sung

"if it wasn't for the scousers we could stand' and 'what a bunch of idiots, you killed your own fans'.

Don't paint yourselves as whiter than white as you end up sounding like them.

Thats wrong, totally a horrible thing to even suggest or think. 99% of the country was horrified when this tragedy happend; its ok for you to sit back and judge people, but you weren't even around to experience it. It was the most horrific thing i have ever seen, especially when a. you knew someone who lost their life and b. the reality strikes home that it could have been you and your arl fella.

The tragedy was horrible, its something I will always support, plug or whatever else needs doing. The people responsible need to be brought to justice.

What the Sun, and especially that **** Kelvin Mckenzie, did was vile and it'll hit harder with people from Liverpool than most in the country, because like it or not we are one; they were accusing our friends, brothers, cousins, uncles of stealing from their own and it makes me physically sick. But the world goes on, and people outside of the city will forget and it will not be an issue to them.

The only thing Rodgers can really do is to issue an apology and have no association with that rag again. I can guarantee that since the tragedy has happend a current, former or future player of our club will have given an exclusive interview to that rag, how are people going to react then; will you want him out. If a future owner (an Arab billionaire) goes to buy the club and promises to turn us into the greatest team in the world, but conducts and exclusive with the rag will you protest so he doesn;t take over???

I didn't say he didn't care about it at the time that it happened, I was talking about his action of putting the shirt on. You've got two options:

a) He thought about Hillsborough when the sponsorship opportunity arose, and decided his trip was more important

b ) It didn't cross his mind at the time, which I don't believe for a minute.

Neither option is great really.

Just because the majority do something doesn't stop it being wrong.

It's not wrong if it doesn't factor into your conscious thinking & whether you like it or not, up until the recent report that laid out the truth - it didn't feature in the conscious thoughts of the majority of the Country.

In addition, when people from outside the City are fully informed of the facts relating to the Sun & Hillsborough, they make their own judgements as to whether 20 years later they want to boycott that paper, as a result of what Kelvin Mackenzie allowed to be printed back then. Not all will come to the conclusion that it's 'wrong' to read or be associated with that paper in 2013.
