Gerrard sold his story to news of the world and very few Liverpool fans seemed to care.

Oh yeah, I know they've ignored stuff like that in the past (and conveniently the SKY sports money the club gets and the fact they all watch the Murdoch owned media). But the Sun is a matter apart...always has been.

It's been a real eye opener this episode with Rodgers. If someone would have said last week that Liverpool supporters would be taking the foot off the neck of that paper and saying it's pretty much a free choice on who associates with it (which they have about 99% of them on this) I'd have refused to have believed it.

I mean, when a long running campaign says DONT READ THE SUN that is what it says, isn't it. It isn't supposed to be DONT READ THE SUN...ERM...BUT IT'S OK TO WEAR THEIR T-SHIRTS AND PROMOTE IT.

Staggered by this reaction. A complete hypocrisy.

I've got to say I do have a degree of sympathy for Rodgers but I also agree with you. They'll happily , and understandably , hammer anyone associated with that rag but they seem to be excusing if not dismissing it . A picture of Duncan ferguson, Neville , moyes , ferguson or Ferdinand in that t-shirt would be hammered by rawk and the various phrases thrown about.

It is as you say hypocrisy and complete double standards, the response shoud have been critical and he could explain the circumstances but no need to give the bloke a kicking however to dismiss or ignore it seems at odds with their usual response .

In this instance you can't be dissapointed in Brenda at all, as obviously it's before he took the role. It's the bellend legion of cultists that have their heads buried in the sand that disgust me.

This is it. I dont think anyone feels it's a resigning matter, not at all. A criticism of it was required and to and then move on. But the free pass he's been given is a disgrace. Not only that (and this is what I've been pushing at) their overwhelming reaction to this gives a license to anyone to now comfortably support that paper. I dont understand how they dont see that.

That about sums it up I think.

This. Rodgers is one of a number of people in the game to have associated with the rag. It's not a hanging offence but he should have been bollocked for it. But they didn't do that - they've chosen to sweep the matter under the carpet and it's a dangerous precedent for any campaign that seeks to see the Sun remain a pariah.

Gotta laugh at the Kopite's responses to the 'Hazard incident': along the lines of 'if this was Suarez you would all be saying this, that and the other etc.'.

NO!

If this was Suarez - you would all be supporting him and sending the 'ballboy' bullets in the post.

Talking of Suarez... from @RAWKMELTDOWN

'Suarez's playing style was once likened to watching the Minotaur perform Swan Lake...'

The response..

Unlike the Minotaur, Suarez would have weaved through the Labyrinth in his trademark style, slain Theseus and become King of Athens.

mwahahahaha wtf?

So it's okay to support a paper that spread lies about the dead and refused to admit the truth for decades if you weren't from the city of the victims affected ?

20-30 years after?

The city of Liverpool has every right never to forgive or forget. No ones disputing that.

But what the city of liverpool has to realise is that not everyone is still cut up about it and not everyone is going to still be offended by it 30 years after.

Did you know Curry's threatened to take my mum to court about 15 years ago, and to this day will not ever do business with them. That's fair enough for her, but she wouldn't expect the rest of the country to still be offended on her behalf especially after all this time.

I know that was quite a trivial situation against a very non trivial one but the principle is still the same.

However rightly or wrongly, it is unrealistic to expect people not from Liverpool to still (putting it harshly) give much of a **** about an incorrect news story printed decades ago. Brennan you gotta take a step back and see it from someone else's point of view, not a passionate scouser where the subject really hits hard. What must at all times be respected though, is the city of Liverpool's right to still hate the rag. No one is disputing that.

Rodgers has done nothing wrong by wearing that shirt, especially before he was manager of lfc.

I think what people are getting at is tuat Rodgers as a football fan should have known better by what that paper printed, but as with the rest of the country its understandable that the scum newspaper has no affect on them, and they shoukdn‘t be made to feel bad about it either
But.. He could have come out and explained himself, after all hes the Liverpool manager FFS, and I agree on people having a go at the kopites for sweeping it under the carpet, thats a poor effort and hypocrisy of the highest order..

The fact that it's a totally different situation completely changes the principal.

The Sun never apologised for what they did, even though it was known for years that they were in the wrong, yet people outside of Liverpool choose to value getting a bit of gossip and news, or getting some sponsorship money, over the principle of remembering that.

Anybody who pretends to care at all about football and football fans should refuse to buy the Sun or promote it, doesn't matter where you're from. The took a massive sh*t on 96 dead people and by wearing that shirt or buying the Sun, regardless of where you're from, you are placing your own desire to read some utter garbage paper over protecting the memories of the 96 people who they blamed. By wearing that T-Shirt he has effectively said 'I value getting sponsorship money over the memory and reputation of 96 dead people', and that's wrong.
