ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

It's not a high horse. I'm looking for consistency.

Genuine question: Is it ok to link to the Sun now?

I have no problems linking to The Sun. If they have a football story that I can't find elsewhere, I'll link it.

I'm not buying the newspaper by doing so. It's the same as the legions of Liverpool fans who choose Sky. It's ran by Murdoch, but that doesn't prevent them enjoying the pleasures of Sky Go.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand why we don't buy the rag and I never would, but that's where the line ends for me.

I dont set my moral compass by those dickheads. It goes beyond Liverpool supporters and what they do or dont do.

Anyway, I'm not asking all this in a po-faced manner. If people feel it's no big deal for Brendan Rodgers to have done what he did that's their business. I'm not going to brow beat them about it. I'm just trying to get some clarification on the linking to the Sun business, which to be fair to you you've addressed. My pov is that if it's accepted that t-shirt stunt is no big deal then the universally held revulsion at linking to the rag itself makes no sense now. Just looking for consistency. Maybe a poll would sort it out?

From all that ^^^ I'd hazard a guess and say that your answer to the question set would be 'no. it's not alright to link to the Sun'.

If so, why? Is it excusable for a football manager to associate with that paper but not us?

Because at that point in time he was **** all to do with the City & was partaking in a CHARITY event that happened to have that paper as it's sponsor.

That paper is still the most popular in the country whether we like it or not - 2.5M Brits read in every day.

If he'd have done it whilst he was associated with his current club, then you'd be right, but he didn't, so it just comes across as a cheap shot imo.

What does it matter that:

a) he wasn't Liverpool's manager at the time
b ) it was for charity
c) it's a popular paper

...what relevance does that all have to someone who knew full well the connection of the Sun to this issue?

Anyway, we've gone past all that now.

& you know that how exactly?

Is everyone of the 2.5M Brits who buy that paper, plus the many millions more that'll read it, both hard copy & on-line, ****s in your opinion Dave?

If the S*n is the only 'paper' running a football story it's definitely not worth reading.

Well, let me put it back to you: a person lives and breathes British football and works in the professional game, was a young man when H'boro happened and grew up his whole life (as a football fan) in this country. Are you seriously suggesting that that person wouldn't have any notion of what the significance of the Sun to football was? Remember the 20th anniversary service at Anfield in 2009 and the outpouring of anger over the cover up and that paper's role in the whole affair? The whole of the country does. But you expect me to accept that Brendan Rodgers must have missed it all.

Really?

So it's an assumption then? cheers for clearing that up.

You can't assume that he fully understood it Dave. As much as we find it incredible that the general populous didn't understand what happened on that day BEFORE the recent report spelt it out.

I remember listening to TS on the way home a day or so after the report came out last year & Jason Cundy was saying that he had no idea about the strength of feeling against the S*n until the day prior.

Even if he did know about it, he had no affiliation with the City & was taking part in a charity event, so what should he have done? Refused to participate in the expedition on the grounds of showing solidarity with a club & City with which he had no assocation & denying whatever charity he was supporting of his contribution in the process? Behave lad

Yes, it's an assumption - a fairly safe one. He would have had to have lived in a bubble for 20 odd years not to know in 2011 about H'boro and the controversy concerning the Sun.

He had to go to Kilimanjaro as the Sun's guest to raise money for charity? He couldn't raise it any other way? He had a choice and made it. His choice suggests he didn't really give a flying one what the Sun had gotten up to in the past.

A poem to Suarez

We thought, when you joined us, we'd be every club's nightmare,
But sadly the blonde [Poor language removed] left, leaving us in despair

With the ban and the goal drought, your first season was sad..
But we knew you are a great player, and you were everything we had..

Now everyone sees what we saw, that you give everything in every game,
It doesn't happen just like that, when Anfield chants your name..

You are one of the very few, who can make the ball to sing,
Its no wonder, they call you "One of the best Nutmeg Kings"

They called you a racist, they called you a cheat..
We know it doesn't matter, you still have a sound sleep!

They say you are a diver, one who makes too easy a fall,
We know the passion behind it, your celebration says it all...

Hated by many, loved by many more,
You are in our hearts, and You'll Never Walk Alone...

Bet they're lapping that up over on RAWK.

Sad thing is they're all going to be saying it's beautiful then talk about how he's the best player in the world and how he's constantly victimised by the whole world but it doesn't matter because they all know he's really a nice guy. He's just misunderstood.
