Think your being overly harsh here.. Chances are if you've heard of Liverpool fc you will have heard of Everton fc too, being a football fan. If I was in Madrid, I'd want to go to both the Bernabau and Atletico's ground.

Visitors to the city will be aware there's two cathedrals and two football clubs surely.
Broadly agree on the last point, but the kind of chump who wants to go see Shamfield isn't going be interested seeing Goodison.

I dunno if you've ever experienced the overseas fans, especially SE Asia, but they really only care about Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, and a bit of Spurs. The TV shows the matches featuring the top 4, so they get their Sky 4 fix and never get exposed to such horrors as Swansea v Stoke or WBA v Villa. They have no sense of history, local rivalry, of who are the traditional 'big clubs'. Everton are just one of the teams their beloved club have to play.

Amazing when you consider who our sponsor is.

Yes.

As an example of this, when I was in Portugal last month I asked the waiter in the hotel to put the Chelsea CL game on the big screen TV....which he was glad to do.

My wife asked why I wanted to watch Chelsea as "you don't even like them"

I replied that there was only one team in the world that I disliked and that was Liverpool.

The waiter immediately said "ah, you must be an Everton fan....." :)

So no.....we are not like Charlton Athletic and anyone who follows English football anywhere in the world will have heard of us.

What's our name......

Everton!

Don't bank on it. I reckon a straw poll of overseas visitors would conclude that the vast majority wouldn't even know Everton Football Club exist.

Example: I was over in Thailand, some local lads say 'hey hey, you English?' 'yeah' ' you support Liverpool? Michael Owen, Stevie Gerrard, yes?' 'No, I support Everton'.

Complete silence, then they walk off.

To suggest visitors to Liverpool would want to see Goodison is like suggesting visitors to London would want to see Charlton or Leyton Orient's ground.

So visitors to the great city of Liverpool would not want to see the home of Liverpools oldest football club.Englands 4th most successful football club and Britains first purpose built football stadium.Sweet jeebus i say comparing a club like us to Charlton or Leyton Orient! Are you a koppite in disguise?

As if any of that matters to some freshly minted RS from Bangkok.

And of course I was not comparing us to Charlton or Orient ffs. I was merely saying that we are not an internationally recognised club and as such the appeal of visiting our stadium is about the same as the aforementioned stadia would be to your average London daytripper. Sheesh, what an overreaction.

I think if you polled the entire world, more would have heard of Liverpool FC than us. Just the way of the world.

In the same way that more folk would recognise Real Madrid than Athletico.

And that is not to compare the RS with RM btw!

But I for one, couldnt really care. It takes an odd view to think that that lot have a lower global awareness than us.

But proper football fans know the real difference between the two clubs. And it has jack to do with global brand awareness.

That's the problem. The majority of the world (and tourists in particular) aren't "proper" football fans

The gift shop in Albert Dock has the usual mixture of 'red' and 'blue' football souvenirs in its window, with more red than blue, and upon closer inspection most of the blue is Chelsea. WTF?

Similar to my experience in Zagreb when I went to an FC Zagreb (not Dynamo) game and one guy actually hated Liverpool and, in broken English, recited 'Evertonians are born...'.

This is simply not true. Sure, there will be plenty of people who are aware of us, but to suggest that we are universally recognisable is just plain incorrect.

Now "Sound as a Pound" Gerd John (shop at) Aldi says "I would love to see Diego Costa leave Chelsea for Libberpool"

- yeah, cos he's just about to put in a written transfer request isn't he...

Well John lad, I hate to disappoint you - like - but hmmm I don't think he's coming to Liverpool (unless Chelsea get to draw your lot in the cup and even then only for the day).

I hate the way he makes out other clubs pay amazing wages as if Liverpool players are on 30k a week. Gerrard is on about 150k, even Glen Johnson is supposedly on around 100k. Aldridge is a class A tit and the most bitter tit of all the tits that spawn from that club.

I worked with a Chelsea fan who had no idea we were from Liverpool, admittedly he was more than a bit clueless when it came to football but nevertheless it proves such people exist.

He also supported Liverpool in the CL as 'they're English aren't they?'
