So what I'm getting here....is that because everyone hates gerrard he's somehow worse than Gibson and Barkley, and it'd be a close call to choose him over osman in a merseyside 11??

not 1 person has mentioned those two. he plays a deep midfield role and he just isn't as good as fellaini in that position and probably not as good as gibson - people are allowed an opinion. he was ****e every time i saw him last season, not even half decent...****e. Gibson was very good virtually every game. it would be a rawk statement if we said mcaleney was better.

Maybe we wouldn't give the same kind of feck as they do over Suarez going because we don't really harbour delusions of 4th place and they do - without Suarez the chance of the RS getting 4th place is somewhere between impossible and flipping impossible - and so basically it's their fear of failure that's driving this on.

Nobody has said any such thing (or I assume so anyway, cba reading back a few pages at 11pm) - Gerrard was sensational in his prime but that was a good four or five years ago now.

In transfer fees alone (if Downing goes), only about £33-35 million. Add to that the £8 million or so he took as a severance payment, and the wages spent on the likes of Downing, Carroll et al, and its probably around £50 million in total. If Sewerz is sold then that might come down by ten million or so.
