Gonna leave out arguably our biggest homemade talent since Rooney to accommodate a has been thug?

Well basically yes... I can't stand the bloke myself but I am basing my point on the fact he has been arguably one of the best players in the premier league over the past ten years and can still play at the highest level ( albeit he doesn't have the legs to be as potent as he once was ) , Barkley is without doubt a huge talent but to omit Gerrard based purely on blind hatred would be obtuse of me.

Obviously, it goes without sayin really that I hope Barkley goes on and surpasses what Gerrard has achieved in the game. I beieve he has the potential to be however good he wants to be.

I agree sir

Care for a glass of port?

Yer ma been talking again???

So where do you stand on this Gerrard discussion mate ?

i hate him with a passion so would never say he was a great player, i'd lean towards he is a **** of a man instead.

he's nowhere near the force he was even a couple of years ago, he's not a team player anymore, was hideous every time i saw him last season and doesn't play the role his manager needs of a captain (tries hollywood balls instead of retaining posession, which is his job). They'd get a few players in the best XI, but he's not one of them, he's simply not as good as gibson or fellaini.

he should retire now, got nothing left to gain.

Gerrard still one of best centre midfield in prem, would walk in every team in the prem, dislike him but he's been top quality for RS!only for him they would have been in the brown stuff over the last5/6years.

good god no mate.

chelsea and man city's midfield would have no place for him, same for spurs and man utd when they actually solve that problem

Gerrard scored 10 goals and had 11 assists last season. Which one of our midfielders had better stats?

He might not be as good as he used to be but he hasn't become **** yet either.

One was a tap in against gollum in the Europa league.

Nine in the league, four of which were penalties. His last goal from open play (one his 'spectacular' hit and hopes that occasionally go in) was at the start of February.

Over half a year has passed since then, his influence will wane yet further this season. Simply not very good anymore.

Some people never learn ha ha .....

*awaits Gerrard hatrick at Klanfield this season.

Gerrard is still a class player, but I don't believe his boast that he had the chance to sign for Bayern and turned it down, I just don't see who he would replace in there midfield. All a ploy to get sewer rat to stay.

Also today they had an open day training session at Anfield, and Suarez supposedly didn't acknowledge the fan's applause.

...can't understand why gerrard turning Bayern down would influence suarez. Anybody turning down a side who went on to win the European Cup to stay with a side who finished 7th has no real football aspiration. I suspect suarez response would be that he was a bit of a dope. suarez is young and ambitious, gerrard is smug and complacent. From the club's perspective, you would've though him going at his age was good business - they'd get cash for somebody who has seen better days and get their biggest earner off the books.
