I think the saying goes along the lines of 'Everton That'. Well tonight explains why I love our Blues. I was crestfallen Saturday evening, long trip home, felt let down by my team, no passion or heart. Unsure whether they cared as much as the fans.
Then you get it, it's a quick turnaround, it's Walton under the lights, we can't be that bad again, changes to the first eleven and a belief that there's a good team and in there somewhere. For the first time since Saturday evening I felt good again....helped by the lads' optimism and the cold lager.
We are far from world beaters but what impressed me most was the attitude and endeavour across the pitch. A poxy deselection after an admittedly slow start didn't turn us into statues. I'm still not sure we are the most convincing side in possession, but tonight there was a difference on the pitch.
The magnificent Blue fans played a huge part - made up for Ross as early mistakes were swapped for an assured display - Valencia built on Saturdays cameo - Gueyre did what he does best - and we were twice the shambles of Saturday.
The players deserve credit tonight - so does the Manager - it was the perfect response to the insipid performance at Watford. We are more than a work in progress, but tonight showed real heart, something I feared we were lacking given recent displays. But the crowd tonight were also unbelievable.
It's A Grand Old Yeam.
