2025/26 Dwight McNeil

Too many haters of this guy. He was average and not amongst the worst

….hate is a very strong word, I tend to use ‘dislike’ and I think it’s largely down to Dibling’s disappointment.

We all want Dibling to be a success, he’s mentioned on here as England’s next ‘big thing’ but he’s nowhere near lived up to the hype. With Ndiaye missing, fans turn on the player who is selected as his replacement largely because it isn’t Dibling.

….he was effective in delivering the terrific free kick that led to our goal. Indeed, we probably looked most likely to score when he was stood over a set play.

In comparison to Dibling at the weekend, I think that is effective. Posters make excuses for Dibling, mostly that he has to play ahead of JOB but the same excuses don’t seem to apply to McNeil.

Saying that, we are talking about who is least worst than better. Ndiaye is sorely missed.
That’s a massive stretch mate. McNeil floated that particular free kick into the back post where Tarkowski had to work his socks off to get something on the end of it, it’s then an awful shot by Tim which is brilliantly flicked on by Keane. The first free kick Garner takes he puts it straight onto Keane’s head at pace and he hits the post. Watch them back.

McNeil has been dreadful on far more occasions than Dibling, Rohl, Tim, Alcaraz regardless of where he has played. Playing him on the right side isnt what is best for the team or for McNeil, it’s lunacy yet Moyes isn’t brave enough to do anything else, seemingly paralysed to try anyone who doesn’t have “experience” even though it’s proven in front of his and his equally bewildered staff’s eyes that it continually fails. Mcneil’s been played through the middle where he was equally abysmal yet still gets chance after chance after chance. Moyes has lots of form for doing this type of thing.

McNeil really puts the effort in when he is sprinting from deep towards a goalkeeper or opposition defender when there is no chance of him getting the ball back, running full pelt so everyone collectively thinks “he’s working his socks off this lad”. When play is going on around him he doesn’t track runners or put the same amount of energy or effort in and his head drops the second he is played around, he’s cheating. Watch him closer.

Anyway, more “experience” in the leg which trumps any form, youth or ability to get in the team.

That's a big part of the issue with him though, he is not now nor at any point in the past been seen as Englands next 'big thing' There is whole list of youngsters miles ahead of him in terms of pecking order for that title like King, Nwaneri, Gittens, Miley and others. I think people need to ease off on him, just because certain posters on here say he is some sort of wonderkid doesn't mean he actually is.

….spot on, which does make you wonder about the wisdom of the transfer.

….definitely, people involved in transfers (including Moyes) should be fully accountable, especially where large sums are involved.

Have to wonder if much is done in the way of homework, certainly looks like Dibling and Barry are some way off being effective even after being here for the best part of 6 months.
loads of homework on Dibling. Russell Martin said he was best player the world had ever seen and we were all in. Screw the full backs. We wanted the next Bayle.

The same Russell Martin that got sacked after 1 win in 16 stubbornly trying to get Southampton to play out from the back despite getting pummelled every single time. Then put some extra matte clay in his hair and started talking like he was an expert, rocked up at Rangers, sacked after 4 months. Shortest reign of any Rangers manager. Did well to last that long after refusing to wear a suit.

That Russell Martin.

That’s frankly an astonishing take. Who was worse?

He was absolutely as bad as Barry, Myko and O’Brien.

He was objectively dreadful, and has been objectively dreadful in nearly every game he's played this season. Consistently one of our worst performers because he offers as close to nothing as you will get on a football pitch. The "close to" element being the odd (and it is just the odd) good ball in.
