2025/26 Dwight McNeil

That is now two absolutely horrific displays on the bounce from McNeil. Genuinely offers nothing in the vast majority of games and last night was no different. It's baffling to see why, or how, the manager can continue to select a player so limited, and completely out of position to the extent that it's virtually like being a man down from the offset.

He's weak and slow, one of the most predictable footballers you're ever likely to see due to his inability to use his right foot, and his body language suggests he'd rather be elsewhere than on a football field for Everton, which is strange because you would think he'd be busting a gut to at least show he's capable of challenging the first-choice players for a starting role.

What I really hated was a few months ago when Moyes picked him because he was "training well", even though he's proven himself very poor in actual games for years. Although I obviously can't be sure, I highly doubt all of Aznou, Dibling and Roehl are extemely poor trainers, yet they are consistantly overlooked in favour of piss-poor alternatives not worthy of starting games.

It's just pathetic seeing this guy continue getting game time when he offers nothing whatsoever.

….and justified his selection.

Despite all the bile and dislike and unpopular as it is, McNeil was more effective against Wolves than Dibling was against Brentford.
Disagree.

Although Dibling was dreadful against Brentford, nothing McNeil did tonight would pass as being effective.

McNeil isn’t a bad option for us off the bench towards the end of games when opposition presses have lost a bit of energy, allowing him a second longer on the ball. He absolutely cannot start though.

….he was effective in delivering the terrific free kick that led to our goal. Indeed, we probably looked most likely to score when he was stood over a set play.

In comparison to Dibling at the weekend, I think that is effective. Posters make excuses for Dibling, mostly that he has to play ahead of JOB but the same excuses don’t seem to apply to McNeil.

Saying that, we are talking about who is least worst than better. Ndiaye is sorely missed.

….sadly, he looks the best option we have until Ndiaye comes back.
OK let's get shut of him when Ndiaye is back from AFCON. I doubt he is our best option..... Probably find a few thousand people in the stands at HD who can do better than him. So surely whoever has made the actual bench would make more of an impact.

Criteria being..

1. can you run
2. do you have more than 1 setting for running (fast/slow would work)
3. can you use both feet

If yes to all 3 (or even two out of three ain't bad.... as the late great Meatloaf once said), then you are instantly better than McNeil.

Just utter nonsense. Your continued backing of utter dross like McNeil/doucoure/Dyche says more about your perceived knowledge of football than anything.

Your football opinion comes from how football was played in the 60s. It’s 2026 not 1966.

Very accurate summation. He was easily the worst performer last night. It was baffling that he actually started after the weekend’s performance but how he stayed on the park for 90 minutes is a mystery. We finished with 9 men but were effectively playing with only 10 from the get go. If I never see him play for Everton again it’ll be too soon.

Beyond belief that any professional football manager , let alone an experienced one like Moyes , continues to select Dwight.

I actually feel a bit sorry for him. He needs to be put out of his misery

He`s a Championship player in the Premier League.

He`s so out of his depth it`s untrue.

He just looks so miserable too, as the crowd are just waiting for him to mess up every time he gets that ball and that can`t be helping him.

My lad said to me last night, you could put any single one of our outfield players in his position and they`d do a better a job.

If Dyche is offering anything at all for him, we should bite his hand off.

….i am very old, I’ll give you that :(

I don’t particularly ‘back’ McNeil or even Doucoure, I just understand why they’re selected ahead of others. We can see what an upgrade can do when Moyes brings KDH in to replace Doucoure. When Ndiaye returns, McNeil doesn’t start ;)

It's not working tho,is it?
Even a Sunday league team would work around this.
He might have a decent left peg 1 or 2 times a game.
It's not American football, and he looks to lightweight for this league.

….looking at the last two games, I agree we don’t have an adequate back-up to Ndiaye so it’s not working.

Maybe he could play Rohl out wide. I suspect he’ll go with McNeil again against Sunderland not least for his set piece delivery. Another opportunity for Dibling too.
