Duncan Ferguson

Great news, should have happened earlier imo! You never know, the Anfield Derby might have been a different story with Dunc on the touchline and in the dressing room.. not that Kev, Alcaraz and all that would have a clue what he was saying

Has he proven himself?

I'm not saying a coach cant be promoted, I'm questioning the wisdom of doing it.

I can see where you are coming from Dave. There is a LOT more to managing a club than coaching a first team. But I am also kind of hopeful that when RM does move on that an internal succession plan is at least an option. Thus RM involves his 2IC in more than just coaching duties ...ie interacting with scouts, knowledge of the transfer market, loan market and all its nuances etc.
As a manager/owner myself, I always have a couple of contingency plans if the surprising happens...or indeed the inevitable (ie valuable human resource moving on)

I think it's a story that is obviously going to shine more in Hutchinsons light, because it's from his point of view. Whether or not that's actually how it went down is another story all together.

I liked Ferguson as a player, unplayable at times. But I was never one for conferring legend status on him, tbh. I think he let the team down on many occasions by his lack of discipline.

What did you make of it?

Well Smith didn't make him captain, so that part is B.S.

It wouldn't shock me in the slightest if Smith did nearly attack him in the dressing room, as that was what him and Knox were like. They definitely wouldn't get away with that sort of thing these days. Alan Myers told a story at his Tea Party a few weeks back about Knox trying to attack him.

I think Hutchinson was exaggerating to prove his point about what Newcastle should do.

I was surprised at the stuff about Smith belittling Watson and Unsworth though. Whether true or not, I've always thought Smith ran the playing side really badly during his tenure.

I'm sure Kenwright would love a no cost replacement for Martinez when he eventually goes.

I dont like these internal successions, tbh. I could maybe see a Jones takeover because he obvioulsy has a lot of senoior experience and it would be continuity with the previous manager. But I generally think the job should go to an experienced manager. It's difficult to learn on the job in this league.

Really intriguing appointment. An icon of this football club who, like us, believes that there is simply nowhere on earth that is better to play your football than Everton. I find him compelling to listen to when giving interviews and I believe he will compliment Martinez. The youth team have blossomed under him and hopefully a few will progress to the 1st team.

I respect Hutch, tbh. He gave it everything in a blue shirrt and he wasn't afraid to take sacred cows on. Remember the slap he gave Gough at the Park End? He was Wally's golden boy and Don wasn't too arsed about it. Wears his heart on his sleeve...and could play a bit.

We might get Dennis Lawrence as manager. Same credentials as Ferguson managerial wise.

so now its "might" but was "have to" ok dave.

other extreme we could get guardioila as he had even less experience or even worse mourinho as he was just an interpreter.

extremes i know but following your lead.

He was manager of Barcelona B who played in the second tier in Spain.

Mourinho had been assisatant manager for 8 years at some of the best clubs in Europe. That's some preparation.
