You honestly saying Chamberlain was a facist cos he appeased Hitler? Really?

No, and I agreed with the point that calling Tories fascists is an insult to those who suffered under fascism. My point was that appeasement was official Tory policy, whilst they enjoyed a massive majority in the Commons.

Mis read it then mate.

And digging up, for these days, ancient history, doesnt really advance anyones argument does it? The whole issue of appeasement has a myriad of opinions. But the tenor of your comment, still, is that Tories are/were facists.

If I have misunderstood that, the please enlighten me.

It isn't really ancient history, though. That war and its heroes, especially Churchill, are still cited and contrasted with modern politicians on a regular basis. The label of appeaser is still regularly used as well, especially at left-wing types like Corbyn and Foot (perversely in the latter case, as he was one of the people who was most responsible for exposing what Macdonald, Baldwin and Chamberlain had actually done) and rarely with any real justification.

I don't think Tories are fascists. The party (either directly or via the national government) did bear a considerable amount of blame for allowing fascism to rise, however.

The mess that the Labour Party are in can be summer up nicely by the vitriol that Kate Hoey, one of their longest serving MPs is taking from younger far left elements of the party on social media. She's one of the few labour candidates I'd vote for and one of the best representatives in parliament. But she doesn't fit the momentum mould so she's vilified. I've heard people speak about labour being a broad church, it appears not.

At the moment, it's a very narrow antechapel

But less than 50 days until that changes thankfully

Kate Hoey isn't taking serious flak from the far left elements of the party. She is being openly attacked by the Labour right, who are backing the Lib Dems in the coming election and who have been after her for at least the last ten years.

I agree with you about her being one of the best Labour MPs, though. She has had my vote since I moved down here.

I think a manifesto promise by all parties should be to ban banning. Or more correctly to stop making policy decisions based on lobbying groups demanding that various things should be banned (Most of the groups doing this are faux charities who receive most of their funding from government, i.e. the taxpayer, to lobby the government to legislate for their favoured ban), examples being sugar, salt, smoking, drinking etc. Adults should be allowed to decide for themselves how badly they want to treat their bodies without prodnoses telling them what to do. rant over :pint2::dance:

Apologies for bumping my own post - but almost all the Tory MPs associated with Open Britain left it today, after they announced that Tory MPs were going to be targeted for removal. Will the PLP take a similar stand?

The group has not yet received any complaints from Labour MPs over its focus on MPs such as Hoey.
