well, good night for the Dems. you know it when the National Review writes articles like these
"This morning I wrote, “if Ed Gillespie loses, some Republicans will want to blame Trump, and he’ll deserve a share of the blame, but it’s a pretty limited share.” That assertion may need revision, with not merely Gillespie and the rest of the statewide ticket losing, but the Republicans in the Virginia state legislature getting demolished. At this hour, Republicans are in danger of losing control of the House of Delegates, where they entered Election Day with a seemingly comfortable 17-seat margin."
It's absolutely scandalous for the Dems to only start taking state-level politics seriously now, but I guess you have to start somewhere. Much, much more political change than the vast majority of liberals realize is affected at this level.
And as always, local elections are of limited value in projecting national trends. It's very dangerous to be complacent based on this, or to anticipate patterns.
I am pleased that this will forestall the state's oblivion by gerrymandering (I doubt the Dems have the power to do this in Virginia, like they do in Maryland, and which anyone who cares about living in fair country should oppose in all cases).
I’m not saying Trump’s election killed my mother. It just feels as if it did. Shocked by his victory my decent, kind, social democrat mum slipped on a step.
Profoundly-strange article in the Groan today, it reads more like an Onion piece:

Literally heard on the Rush Limbaugh show just now. Democrat won VA Gubernatorial election because of illegal immigrants and criminals voting.
This is the most listened to radio program in America.
