Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

Trump supported Strange, not Moore, in Alabama. He actually has very little ability to control or channel his angry herd. And Republicans have not been able to win elections without essentially these same people since Eisenhower.

It is a potentially very costly mistake to see Trump as the disease itself, rather than just a symptom.

And getting ridding of him, especially absent a degree of legitimacy among non-liberals, would only be the opening salvo, not the final volley.

Couldn't have said it better myself. You folks think that Trump is Godzilla, when the reality is that he's the guy Godzilla sent.

The party system as currently constructed is an anachronism.

This is already a much worse and more scandalous catastrophe than most people care to know, but it will be another week or two before it settles in - which is in itself catastrophic and scandalous. But I don't think Ted Cruz would be handling it any better.

Puerto Rico: US officials privately acknowledge serious food shortage
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/oct/11/puerto-rico-food-shortage-hurricane-maria

Federal officials privately admit there is a massive shortage of meals in Puerto Rico three weeks after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.

Officials at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema) say that the government and its partners are only providing 200,000 meals a day to meet the needs of more than 2 million people. That is a daily shortfall of between 1.8m and 5.8m meals. “We are 1.8 million meals short,” said one senior Fema official. “That is why we need the urgency. And it’s not going away. We’re doing this much today, but it has to be sustained over several months.”

The scale of the food crisis dwarfs the more widely publicized challenges of restoring power and communications. More than a third of Puerto Ricans are still struggling to live without drinking water.

However, Fema provides no details on food deliveries, keeping its public statements to the most general terms. On its website, Fema says it has provided “millions of meals and millions of liters of water”.

In fact many of those meals are military ready-to-eat meals that civilians find hard to digest if consumed for more than a few days.

Now the biggest provider of cooked meals says Fema is putting its operations at risk of closure.

World Central Kitchen, founded by chef José Andrés, cooks and distributes 90,000 meals a day through a network of local chefs and kitchens.

Its Fema contract, to provide just 20,000 meals a day, ended on Tuesday. Fema insists it is bound by federal rules that mean it will take several weeks for a new contract to emerge to feed more Americans.

“There is no urgency in the government response to this humanitarian crisis,” Andrés said. “They have all the officials and armed guards at headquarters, but they have no information about the island. They don’t even have a map they can share about who needs food. Fema is over-paying and it is under-delivering.”

But does anyone besides @mezzrow on here actually read right-wing media?

Jose Andres has been superb throughout this crisis, if anyone wants to donate here is the link to his organisation https://www.worldcentralkitchen.org/donate

Not only are there still significant issues, three weeks later, with access to the basics such as clean water, food and medical care (especially in the more remote areas) there are worrying signs of disease with several suspected deaths due to leptospirosis.

I think Cruz would be handling it at least a bit better, if for no other reason than he'd be cognizant of the risk to his re-election if large numbers left the island for Florida. However my loathing of Cruz (apparently shared on a nonpartisan basis in the Senate) means that even that minimal praise of him leaves me feeling uncomfortable.

Meanwhile Trump is attacking Puerto Rico again

Brought to us by the outlet that cried "Seth Rich," (did anybody get fired for that, like what actual journalism outlets do when they get something wrong?) from the author of "The Ultimate Man's Survival Guide: Rediscovering the Lost Art of Manhood"*

Not sure it really is so mysterious why your team struggles so much with credibility, outside its own bubble.

And as usual, he is really only "just asking questions." ("So does this sound like a small bank fraud story to you or is it more likely that a lot more is going on here?")

Anyhow, had not heard about this, so thanks, I guess. I'm sure the news will be reported if and when there is any. (Or, presumably, as the first commenter suggests, a continuing lack of evidence only proves the depth of the cover-up). And complaining about DWS is pushing against a long-since opened door.

I suppose this sort of post is why you're not on here much anymore, but I'm not going to edify Trumpism even if I might try harder than others on the left to understand it.

*Now added to my Christmas list! I do concede that I do not know how to fight off alligators! But please, who wouldn't take metrosexual over disgruntled undereducated elderly conspiracist any day of the week when it comes choosing a bottle?

From the publishers' blurb:
"The Upper East Side metrosexual may be good at cocktail chat, but a real man knows how to fight off alligators, create a tourniquet out of a t-shirt, and rescue a drowning person. Frank Miniter's The Ultimate Man's Survival Guide shows men how to do all of these and more, including:
* how to fight off a bear
* how to set a dislocated joint
* how to pick the perfect cigar and bottle of wine

Presented in seven sections--survivor, provider, athlete, hero, romantic, cultured man, and philosopher--Miniter teaches guys the skills, attitudes, and philosophies they need to be the ultimate man. Clearly written and packed with real-life anecdotes, as well as line-drawings and how-to illustrations, The Ultimate Man's Survival Guide teaches men that any guy can be the ultimate man whether he is rescuing a lost hiker, plucking a child from a swift stream, or standing up against injustice."

President Donald Trump appeared confused about a longstanding military tradition on Wednesday night. While speaking with Fox News’ Sean Hannity at an Air National Guard hangar in Middletown, Pennsylvania, Trump paused as loudspeakers began playing the tune, “Retreat,” in the distance. It’s part of a firmly rooted tradition that predates the American Revolutionary War; the US military tune signals the start and end of the official duty day. “What a nice sound that is,” Trump said, as the tune began playing. “Are they playing that for you or for me?” “They’re playing that in honor of his ratings,” Trump quipped, answering his own question to Hannity. “He’s beating everybody.”

When the American flag is lowered and raised on US military installations, a bugle blares on loudspeakers as service members and civilians pay their respects to the flag. Uniformed service members located outside of a building are required to stop and salute the flag, while civilians are required to place their hand over their heart. The tradition also requires service members who are driving vehicles on a military base to pull over and render a salute. Members of the audience could be seen standing up during the ceremony:

Trump’s apparent confusion about the military exercise follows weeks of rebukes from the president about NFL players who kneel during the national anthem in protest of racial injustice and police brutality. Trump has frequently called the peaceful demonstration, which is protected by the First Amendment, a sign of disrespect for the flag, US troops, and the national anthem.
