We who live in relative prosperity and security must extend our privileges to those fleeing war and insecurity.

Define insecurity. Fleeing poverty or a broken society?

Then state if there should be a limit. No limit?

Then state how UK & Europe should cope with hundreds of millions of new arrivals, mostly from a culture which doesn't separate religion & state with primitive views of individual freedoms, who are looking to Europe for a better life.


Virtue signalling is not the way forward. Practical thinking is. We have to keep it humane while practical at all times, something which encourages cultures who don't feel secure to better themselves in their own lands. Something which limits potential new victims.

Your suggestion potentially encourages many new victims: those attempting the long risky journey, the continuation of foreign policies which partly cause mass migrations and also increasing the risk of European victims of crime. (search XYEINZELFALL).

So my suggestion would be to look at solutions which cease Western meddling in Arab lands, then encourage the formation of a United States of Africa.

This is encouraging problem children to fix their own issues, while always leaving the door open for genuine refugees. Economic migrants fleeing 'insecurity' cannot simply all come to Europe. It's practically unworkable.

The point is that the IRA kept their atrocities localised. There was a specific set of people involved, and against the one target (The British).

Islamist terrorism is global, and transcends many races and nationalities. They attack indiscriminately and all over the planet. They even kill fellow muslims. Everyone is fair game to them animals.

It's also a lot harder to determine from 1.6 or so billion muslims who could be and is a terrorist than from the number of Irish Catholics in the UK & Ireland.

I see nothing wrong with trump's policy strictly as a safety measure.

I believe that @abelard understands the electoral college just fine. He doesn't accept the bounds of our constitution as written. That's the issue. The "forward" nature of progressivism since Wilson began to write academically on government is based on turning constitutional government into Calvinball. Only the right (or left, really) people get to make those decisions, and we are poorer as a nation if we handcuff our betters from taking matters into their own hands.

BBC documentary from years ago called the power of nightmares was an interesting watch saying our countries needed an enemy to enable spending on defence and security. We had the cold war and now the war on terror.

It highlighted Osama Bin Laden as a chancer with money, not this evil super being with thousands followers and a terrorist network. It claimed Al Qaeda the name was created by the FBI to create a myth in the late 90's and they put Bin Laden as the leader to charge him for bombing of the US Embassy.

Osama never mentions Al Qaeda till after the 9/11 when it got blamed on Al Qaeda. Interesting watch, might find it and watch it again.
