It's not just since Trump was elected has there been a call by many and not just anti Trump people for a number of years now to remove these. It just so happens their movement has taken more traction since the rise of Racism under Trumps regime.
Remember Trump had more African Americans vote for him than both Romney and W did. Not every black or non white person is a liberal and hated the idea of Trump. Do you think they like those statues as a constant reminder of what their brethren went through? I bet not.
Both the democratic and republican parties have used the black and Latin communities as a tool in my opinion. It's like a game to them to get as many on their side as they can. Forgetting they are normal Americans with their own issues.
Tension has been building for a long time in the US in southern states against law enforcement and well racism in general. There is now a President who has not done or will do anything to ease it. In fact he just seems to trigger and incite the Racists and frustrate and infuriate those looking for hated to stop.
