Haha. You could say you were the Queen of Babylon in a plea agreement. You do know that in a plea agreement a defendant agrees to whatever the prosecution wants in exchange for a favourable sentence? It isn't a statement of fact. It is a statement that the prosecution has demanded.

I read a wide variety of news sources from all over the political spectrum. Unlike you I will never automatically agree with whatever I read.

The reason the pipe bomber is crucial is nicely summed here:

The notion that the Secret Service, the most elite protection detail in the world, swept the DNC building and managed to miss the pipe bomb is impossible to believe—either that or what transpired was such an act of such gross negligence that it is tantamount to deliberate malfeasance. Indeed, as the Google Earth satellite photo reveals, the pipe bomb was mere feet from both the entry and exit doors, as well as the parking garage, where the Secret Service claims it conducted a sweep.

...So how could the pipe bomb have been missed and therefore how could a member of the public have planted it while the secret service was there?

Five facts about the pipe bombs are particularly strange, and their significance has never been fully explicated or connected. We will attempt to do so here.

Those five facts are:

The pipe bombs — according to the Capitol Police Chief Stephen Sund and Inspector General — were planted as a “diversion” to distract law enforcement shortly before 1 p.m., when the breach of the Capitol’s perimeter was just getting started. According to the official timeline, the breach started just one minute after Capitol Police were informed about the pipe bombs just two to three city blocks away.
The pipe bomber used an old-fashioned mechanical timer with a one hour max time setting, but planted the bombs at roughly 8 p.m. the night before January 6 — 17 hours before they were found.
The pipe bombs were constructed with no remote detonation ability, meaning their purpose as a diversion relied solely on the “luck” of being found at the right time, between noon and 1 p.m., to match the one-hour timer appearing to target the 1 p.m. Congressional certification vote.
The first pipe bomb was found at 12:40 p.m., with 20 minutes left on the timer, perfectly matching the exact timing needed both to “divert” police as the breach began at 12:50 p.m., and to convince police the bomb was timed to the 1 p.m. Congressional vote.
The timer didn’t just have 20 minutes left. It was left stuck on the 20 minute dial.

The self imolation of Graham"s reputation over the past few years has been remarkable.

If he had worded his statement less strongly, I would agree with this one. "There is no way Trump can get a fair trial in D.C." is accurate enough, given demographics and a prosecutor's strikes. I have a hard time seeing the jury box not ending up with twelve people strongly biased against him.

"You could convict any Republican of anything in D.C." is a much stronger statement that doesn't follow. I suspect both that he knows better, and that he has said stuff like this before. He started his career as a defense attorney in the Air Force's JAG, then switched sides to the prosecution. I suspect that he became tired of sledding uphill against some of the most biased judges and juries on the planet, and probably said similar things about that situation.

The fact that this particular case has enough in the public domain to draw my conclusions does not support your conclusion that this is what I think generally about all cases. You are attempting to generalize from instances. That is a blatant logical fallacy.

I'm certain I'm on record as both believing that we need a legal system, and that it is desperately in need of deep reforms. It treats some animals more equally than others, with socio-economic status frequently the largest determinant of outcomes. Trump is uniquely positioned to fight his case, using a novel legal strategy, by virtue of past position and finances. Fox has deep enough pockets to fight a case that the folks in the Capitol on January 6th cannot fight.

A good example is O.J. Simpson. Walked when he had the money, ended up in prison when he didn't. This doesn't prove the point alone, as stated above. What proves the point is the academic research on the subject, which is savage and holds up across both time and space. It raises some additional points I think are excellent, like the problems with our jury selection system. It also raises some other ones I think are more questionable.

Are you joking? The fact that there have been leaks (extraordinary leaks) to the press is exactly why you should be suspicious of the evidence and the integrity of the investigation! Since when do newspapers find out about evidence in a trial before the defendant? It was all over the papers Trump was going to be indicted before he was even told himself!

According to journalist Marcy Wheeler, the FBI relied heavily on controversial geofence warrants as part of its investigations into January 6 suspects, identifying over 5,000 unique devices based on Google Location History. Geofence search warrants are meant to locate devices within a given area based on digital services like GPS, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi signals. According to a follow-up report by Wired, the filings suggest that these geofence warrants also captured phones that were in airplane mode or otherwise out of cell service. Further, it appears that individuals who attempted to delete their location data in the days after January 6 were of particular interest to the FBI.


In fact, the pipe bomb suspect would be a particularly easy geo-fencing target because the suspect was alone in a specific, known area at a specific, known time.

Even as media has become more partisan, the traditional outlets don't run things they can't substantiate with multiple, credible sources. They get crushed when they do. Nobody wants another Stephen Glass experience.

Tbh in this particular indictment there seemed relatively little leaking, lots of people seemed blindsided by the seriousness of the evidence.
