I can’t find it, but saw a Tweet from somebody the other day that basically said that the political discourse in the US has shifted so far to the right, that we need an ACTUAL communist to run for office somewhere just to provide appropriate contrast and show people that the far left in fact, is not a geriatric old man who wants people to be able to attend college, or see a doctor without it resulting in financial Armageddon for them.

It’s almost inconceivable that Trump has moved the Overton window so far, so quickly that people like Kari Lake, Dr. Oz and Herschel Walker are all probably going to get elected tomorrow.

This fella has been at work for many many years.

I'd never seen it right up close till the weekend.
We live on a quiet street, the neighbors were getting some siding work done.
We were out front with our kid playing on the street when this contractor drives down in an enormous chevy truck, hummer sized or bigger.
He has two massive flags sticking out the back, one says FJB and the other some sort of 'don't thread on me' variation.
His truck can barely make it down the one way street without almost taking wing mirrors off the parked cars.
He gets to our house and sees there's no street parking so just blocks our car in to our driveway, hops out, leaves the thing idling on a beautiful day.
Walks straight past us to the neighbors and just scowls at us like it's our fault there's no where he can park his monster truck.
His T shirt says F*** your feelings and the F word is made out of AR15's.
He has Trump tattoos.
Our neighbors, an older working class couple think he's great, he's got the job. He'll be back soon.
Oh joy.
Meanwhile this week my kid who's still not 4 has to do his first lockdown drill at school.

I'm raging at how all this is the norm.
No one is questioning it.

Makes me think of this monstrosity I saw a couple years ago. I’m sure it’s barely a hindrance for their business here in the deep red South, but if a contractor pulled up to my house with that on their vehicle, they certainly wouldn’t be getting any of my money.

I think the part of the whole interaction that got me the most was that I kinda had been giving them the benefit of the doubt,
as in they're probably alright and maybe if I ever met a really extreme fanatic, they might be pleasant which would take the toxic edge away
but this guy was an absolute weapon. There was also a real bang of 'I'm in a liberal part of the city so I'm going to be hard as nails'.
The whole thing was just sad.
My dog (a rescue rotty mix) growled at him tho so that was cool.

Regardless, congratulations on being lucky enough to make it all the way until November of 2022 before actually encountering one in the wild. Quite an accomplishment.

At least the early rhetoric from Fox News is what Ingraham is saying. Hopefully moderating themselves in order to become more palatable will be the party line going forward. I’m skeptical however, given that raising the voting age to 21 is an idea that MAGA Twitter has started chirping about after they got absolutely demolished by the Gen Z crowd.
