Agree with this completely, the trouble is the process in convicting him. Surely it should be a impartial criminal trial rather than a jury of politicians who will vote down party lines? That train has left the station and mainly due to Trump himself by peddling lies and misinformation also by endorsing the fringe right,
This is not about party affiliations or retribution it’s enforcement of the concept that no one even the president is above the law, which he has flouted on numerous occasions.
It’s like saying let’s not convict a murderer because it might upset some people, and they when you do that you have no law or order.
Allowing the republicans to say ‘his gone now so it doesn’t matter’ is not serving the best interest of the country and would set a terrible precedent for future administrations.
Republicans need to put their country first rather then themselves and Donald Trump
Different standards/procedures and results (disbarred from further office), impeachment has always been a politcal process done by politicians.Agree with this completely, the trouble is the process in convicting him. Which is why I despise that these guys get to pontificate uninterrupted. I'd love to just start yelling at them about how they said "you can't impeach this close to him leaving!" then say "well you can't impeach now that he's GONE!"Haven’t gotten to watch a lot of the proceedings in the Senate, but the House seems to be laying out a pretty airtight case, as expected. For as much reverence as the Republicans claim to have, it’s such a weak move to vote to acquit on the grounds that the trial itself is unconstitutional. No one in their right mind can possibly think that the founders intended for the outgoing president to be completely above the law for 2+ months.
15? seriously? That's infuriating, how can they vote on a trial that they are not even willing to be present and hear the evidence?I know things are somewhat different right now because of COVID, but how are Senators not even required to actually be present for the trial? CNN said during the recess that as many as 15 Republicans blew it off entirely.

Our very republic is built on the principle that the Senate will do what is right regardless of party lines.Agree with this completely, the trouble is the process in convicting him. Surely it should be a impartial criminal trial rather than a jury of politicians who will vote down party lines?
Yep, I'm guessing that may happen. My Senator Arlen Specter did that in the Clinton trialIt's a very convenient excuse.
Actual question....Is it possible to vote "present" at an impeachment trial as it is for other senate votes? If so, I would expect all these GOPs to vote present instead of not guilty.
