No having Trump on twitter has been a blissful silence to our nation. So much that since Trump was suspended from his online platforms online misinformation about election fraud plunged 73 percent, research firm Zignal Labs has found. If only these tech companies had acted aggressively sooner to limit Trump's falsehoods about voting fraud then our Democracy wouldn't be so tarnished and the attack on Capitol Hill may not have happened.

The problem is that the study only includes the mainstream sites, of which trump has been banned from all of them. It's what is now being discussed in the more shadowy corners of the internet that is a concern.

It is definitely concerning because when these idiots are in public platforms it is easy for law enforcement to be aware of their plans but it also means that while they may be planning things in the dark corners of the internet, no having access to social media platform makes it is harder for them to spread their message and reach large masses. So indoctrinating people doesn't happen as easily.

When it comes to Trump though it makes a great difference that he has been silent. "Researchers have found that Trump’s tweets were retweeted by supporters at a remarkable rate, no matter the subject giving him a virtually unmatched ability to shape conversation online." Trump’s social media access was a megaphone in overdrive that has been silenced for the good of our country, at least for now.

Has he had associates posting more extreme messages on the unmoderated platforms though?

I agree that he had a very public platform to spread his disinformation, but by removing him, have they pushed all those followers to the more extreme platforms that they normally wouldn't have bothered with because they had that direct communication on twitter?

It is definitely a double-edged-sword type of issue.

But you are correct, it is concerning that some of these people being pushed to the dark corners of the internet and this definitely presents new challenge for law enforcement.

Here is a good article about it.

I listen to the New York Times Daily Podcast.

I highly recommend their latest episode, "A Mood Check With Trump Supporters."

Aside from one man at the end who was entirely reasonable, the rest exist in this information eco system that is centred on alternate facts.

For example, one woman thought the Democrats were pawns of the Chinese and the Chinese Army would be turning up to secure then inauguration.

They're genuinely scared people.

Crazy religious leaders that are still claiming that Trump will remain in office are going to have a grueling awakening on Wednesday, then maybe it will be their time to shove it.

A Brazilian pastor convinced his followers that his penis produced holy milk. I'm pretty sure this bloke will be able to come up with something to convince his dopey followers that he's not a fraud.

This report on American values and democracy from the Trump administration is as bad and laughable as you might expect. It is truly embarrassing in that old-timey Abe Simpson yell-at-the-TV about the good ole days (which actually never happened) and all the fake threats to America. The report devotes a weird amount of space to identity politics and shoe-horns "progressivism" and "identity politics" along with "fascism" and "communism" as the major threats to America. It also preaches "rule of law." It's very ironic reading about fascism and "rule of law" from an administration where Trump is in charge.
