TBF it was just half lawyer talk - he never actually condemns the violence of his supporters (as opposed to the violence of people who aren't his "true" supporters), and he described a cop being murdered in ridiculously Disney terms - and half some comments that would be extremely worrying coming out of the mouth of any other dictator, specifically the bit where he was talking about activating large numbers of military and LE to "preserve order".
Probably just saved himself from losing the Senate trial with that speech (which he almost certainly doesn't believe in). Gives the Republicans that were on the fence just enough to keep them in line.
