There are teams throughout the country with more nebulous Native American names (Indians, Braves, Seminoles, etc.) that you can almost make a case for keeping without being obviously racist. The Redskins are another story entirely. Their name is a racial slur. Nothing more, nothing less.

Not sure about the Indians situation, but it seems like the Redskins are probably changing their name to avoid going broke. Sponsors are starting to avoid them like the plague.

No they didn't
The head of a tribal council came up with the logo for the team that would have been the braves.
But they changed so as not to confuse it with the baseball team.
The owner of the now Redskins said he asked several players on the team who identified as Natives and they said it was cool. Apparently though several of those players were not native at all.
