Haha, yeah pretty sure I picked up that you're not American Groucho. My comment wasn't directed at anyone in particular; but yeah, genuinely curious as to the lack of apparent action by the public at large.
It is hard though. Not everyone can take time off to get themselves to a mass protest. And there's a lot of space out here. I can get to DC in an hour. A lot of people could assemble in a lot of big cities but a lot of people also wouldn't be able to make it and that kind of accentuates the point that rural people make about the cities not understanding. I'm not saying do nothing but it isn't as simple as putting a message out on Facebook.

The other thing is I don't think a one day protest makes a difference. We are talking about a situation where to make any serious impact multiple day occupations of cities will probably be necessary. It's just very difficult to do that but you're probably right that it is time to start working.

In terms of practicial measures perhaps not, but symbolically large-scale protests at least sends the message to fellow Americans who are inclined to think likewise, and to the world in general, that the POTUS does not represent the views of a large number of Americans, and racism and intolerance in any way, shape and form, must be rejected.

I just think to get the Democrats who are still doing nothing and pretending this is normal politics to take notice and act it'll take something unprecedented. And so while a big one day event is something it feels already like it would be fruitless which is frustrating as hell.

It's the angle he's using. I don't think he's personally racist I don't think he gives a hoop. He just cares about himself.

Do a little more research about this topic; there is no question he is so self-absorbed and so narcissistic that he probably hates his own children should they ever upstage him (except for his daughter who he wants to marry), but I firmly believe he has a special disdain for non-whites (especially non-white males), which makes his negative targeting of a demographic group based on an arbitrary property such as skin color to be the very definition of racist. As you probably know, Trump is the fellow who took out a full page ad in the NYT asking for the death penalty of 5 African American or Puerto Rican alleged assailants (and which likely played a role in their conviction) and who were later completely exonerated via DNA evidence. And yet racist Trump has refused to apologize for his actions.

It's a very good point. I'm not American, but where are the mass protests against Trump's presidency and his overt racism? Where are the marches down Pennsylvania Avenue, where is the civil disobedience a la the '71 May Day protests? Where are the tens of thousands camping out by Washington Monument?

The only thing more worrying than Trump himself, is the apparent apathy on the left-wing, liberal or moderate right-wing side (I say apparent, because to a casual observer from across the Pacific, this is what it looks like).

Something tells me that in decades to come, history won't look too favorably on this inaction, much as we scratch our heads and look back on early 1930's Germany and ask why all the decent folk turned a blind eye to all that was going on then.

There's large marches in London nearly every week but none of it makes the news. For somewhere the size of the USA it'd have to be colossal for it to be more than a local issue and nationwide to garner international coverage.....not enough people can drop everything to go and do that kind of thing.

But capitalism thrieves when people are divided and ignorant. So it shouldn't be that surprising in a way this is going on in America.

He's definitely racist and has a long history of it going back to when he was stepping out of his rich Dad's shadow - there's a chance he doesn't believe what he thinks and does is racist though.
