Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

I was listening to a radio discussion earlier on whether or not this present situation is becoming "dangerous".

There was a clip played from the 2008 election campaign between Obama and Mc Cain where a member of a studio audience claimed Obama was "an Arab" who "could not be trusted". McCain was asked if he agreed. His reply was along the lines of 'I disagree with him over policy but that is nonsense - he is a good family man and wants the best for America'.

Can you imagine the present incumbent of the White House coming out with such a statemanslike reply ? Me neither. It is no wonder that many consider the current situation deeply worrying.

It's also bad that we couldn't see this coming considering that question. This country was way closer to this than anyone wanted to admit.

Let’s do something about this, sister.

It's a very good point. I'm not American, but where are the mass protests against Trump's presidency and his overt racism? Where are the marches down Pennsylvania Avenue, where is the civil disobedience a la the '71 May Day protests? Where are the tens of thousands camping out by Washington Monument?

The only thing more worrying than Trump himself, is the apparent apathy on the left-wing, liberal or moderate right-wing side (I say apparent, because to a casual observer from across the Pacific, this is what it looks like).

Something tells me that in decades to come, history won't look too favorably on this inaction, much as we scratch our heads and look back on early 1930's Germany and ask why all the decent folk turned a blind eye to all that was going on then.

Mate I’m not American, I’m from Walton, but I know fascism when I see it.

I’ve often wondered this. I think the sheer size of the country has something to do with it.
The raw capitalist system also stifles a lot of protest.
People can’t leave work at the drop of a hat for fear of repercussion.
Students pay a fortune for their education and are hesitant to jeopardize that in any way. There have been huge protests but they have to be organized well in advance and lose their impact.
Also, the people most effected by trump are the immigrants who are afraid to leave their homes, neverning gather in groups.
We’re still a long way from civil disobedience on a national scale.

At least in my California city it is currently more small scale protests largely directed at the immigration detentions policy, for instance last Friday there was a candlelight vigil outside the local library that would never make any national, let alone international, news. The protests when the Muslim ban came in, or after Charlottesville, were much bigger though - perhaps there is some “normalization” setting in despite the large turnout in the mid-term elections.
