Those same Apollo rockets which actually got men to the moon? Something no modern rocket despite all the computer tech has come close to achieving.
There's about the same level of tech in the average smart phone as the Apollo missions used, nobody else has gone to the moon as its ridiculously expensive and there is nothing of value on the moon. Its the cost of the fuel that makes it expensive, not the microprocessors.

Mate, this post is daft. Start by googling Apollo1, also check for issues with 12, 13 and 15
Then consider that the shuttle wasn't designed for lunar trips but for the development of space stations.
Now try and convince me that SpaceX should revert to older technology.
Honestly, I'm going to stop now because I dont want to start with personal insults.

That's an oft-quoted misunderstanding. There's as much CPU spec in todays' smartphones as in Apollo mainboard CPU's, but that doesn't mean much when looking at the Apollo tech as a whole. Do you understand what a CPU does?

As to there being nothing of value on the moon, how do we know? We've explored only a tiny amount of it.

I also suspect you didn't know that scientists have estimated there being quite a bit of Titanium on the moon. Not to mention the vast history further study of the moon's craters could tell us about our own planet's existence.

And then there's realistic experimenting with off-world bases, something which might be the key to mankind's survival in the far future.

That's all heavy stuff, well worth going back for. If only we made rockets like we used to...which was Donald's wider point.

you should probably not post here at all if that's how easy you get riled up.

Its not a misunderstanding, however I think you may not understand how a rocket works or how much it costs. Building and fuel are the problems, thats why SpaceX are successfully reusing theirs.

There are other methods of quantifying whats on the moon other than a man is a spacesuit with a shovel and spade.

The Donald doesnt often have a wider point. Fondly remembering a previous time is vein that runs through a LOT of his posts and speeches, its something a lot of dictators and sociopaths do.

Building and fuel are obstacles sure, but then what isn't when you're planning on going to the moon?

And what other methods other than man-travel are there for 'quantifying' if we can live on off-world bases? The moon, and Mars, are our candidates for that and there are already research projects worldwide which are looking into this. And regarding mining, a robot can only do so much if it's relying on signals from another planet.

And speaking of SpaceX, there's a lot of excitement with what they're doing, if they manage to successfully re-use rocket-equipment for manned missions to another planet then that's a brilliant development.

Re: the Donald...can't we just give him a break now 'n then? It's an interesting topic he touched on, with some truth to it. Giving him a break gives you lot a break, in a way. You bad addicts.

Is there proof that the two accidents were linked? Could it not very easily have been pilot error?
No proof as yet for the 2nd crash as think they are still examining the black boxes although there are a lot of similarities with the profile of how the planes reacted just after takeoff.

In the Indonesia crash I have seen no reports of pilot error. Boeing did issue new training (that the Ethiopian pilots received) about a how a faulty sensor could give readings that then triggered the automatic system to push the nose of the plane down.

The FAA said new information about Sunday's crash "indicates some similarities" between the two disasters that "warrant further investigation of the possibility of a shared cause that needs to be better understood and addressed."
