Yeah but you have totally deflected a very reasonable point on whatvive said hereHow about inject that wall money into education programs that will train those downtrodden communities to do something that is relevant?

There is a tarrif on EU steel
So you want a status quo?
Your Happy with a massive trade deficit?
Your happy with outsourcing employment?
He’s trying to do something to reignite dying communities isn’t he and get people back in work?

Well what’s the problem then? But get some of the old industry fired up again, get them people working again and their kids having a future in their own country were they have something to look forward too rather than a [Poor language removed] hole with no prospectsThe do over here too. Not all cars need to be made in Detroit.
It’s not though is it..I think my point is quite relevant.
Trade deficit is not a problem? It goes against everything to do with economics and can generate massive inflation when out of controlok.
His "something" won't seem to work. And it is far from clear that a massive trade deficit is actually a problem for the USA. It can be a sign of a vibrant economy.

It also causes a reduction in a country internal investment, infrastructure being a big one which can also generate more employment.ok.

I’ll look through that later. Saw a program in BBC last year showing ghost towns in Detroit due to closures I think from 20 years ago. Pretty depressing to watchDude...the auto industry in Detroit is still big. It's just not as big as it once was. Primarily because of automation. Take a look at the link below. Most of those auto jobs did not exist when Detroit was at it's peak.

A rare foray into this thread for me, but if Trump thinks reopening steel works or car plants long since closed, will actually work, he is living in cloud cuckoo land.
We had that in the UK, steel, mining, ship building, all went west, but the effort was made to reboot the areas into new, more modern economic hubs.
Plenty of views on the rights and wrongs of what happened, but generally, the old industries have been replaced with new ones.
Yeah going back to the time when my auld fella was a staunch unionist, but remember it was all about it being cheaper produced abroad, we still need this type of hardwareA rare foray into this thread for me, but if Trump thinks reopening steel works or car plants long since closed, will actually work, he is living in cloud cuckoo land.

It absolutely is though. The steel, auto, and coal jobs will never be the same. Education is the best solution for these places. Training people to do relevant and current things of importance.
Cities like Pittsburgh have rebounded and are now thriving with new tech and biotech jobs...as an example.
