Pefectly reasonable for the press to believe she was separated from her mother hours after she left their view - after all this was clearly not at a port of entry and Trump had promised a zero tolerance policy for anyone crossing elsewhere regardless of whether they were claiming asylum. Are you pointing out that Trump was incorrect that it was zero tolerance?

If the Trump admin want the press to be confident that the girls have in fact been separated perhaps they could give access to their shelters which they have so far denied multiple times.

I think we can both agree though that is good that she and her mother weren’t ripped apart, unlike the over 2000 other kids who were. I wonder if the press having been a witness to the arrest influenced the decision to not do the same in this case.

Don't Australia have camps like this hidden the deport the illegal immigrants back to where they came from by boat?
Just thought I had seen a news item on this way back they do it more decretetly??

I don't know Joey, I remember headlines of asylum seekers in Australia sewing their mouths shut and going on hunger strike. They have off shore camps.

Yes hidden - the news item was they definitely shipped them back home when they found out where they came from - Trump (not a fan ) is only doing what he stated he would do on his campaign the child thing was well OTT cruelly, and callous by him - he's back tracked on the separated family's children, but his cages remain sadly with support of the USA people who voted him in - it's a deterrent that probably will only work short term!

Yes we have several on shore and one off shore. Not hidden at all, just virtually impossible for journalists to get access to. Manus Island was closed, and those on Nauru were being resettled in the U.S...apparently but then "On 2 February 2017 Australian news outlets, quoting the Washington Post, reported that a telephone conversation between Trump and Turnbull had been acrimonious in relation to the "swap", and that Trump had terminated the call ahead of time. Trump has expressed admiration over the detention facilities, opining that the US should do the same." I think as of now they have already started sending people there.

Look, some facilities are an absolute crime against humanity yet the right wing believe locking people up and systematically breaking them is somehow good. It's shocking.

Refugees should be processed in purpose built communities where they work, learn the language and customs of the country and after a year or two released into the community. Get them making things. Working. Earning credit for their introduction into the community. If you can't learn the customs or the language or do anything wrong in that time you should be sent back. These people should be treated fairly and their debts should be to produce, to work hard and to become good citizens for the countries they flee to. They should be given a chance, monitored and go through stages to acclimatise them. They step out of line and they go back to detention and then back to where they came from.

I just don't understand that a capitalist can't see the value in utilising them as commodities and giving them a chance to earn respect and to find a new home.

Scandolous that the media have once again scraped the barrel to find a way to attack him and his wife. She was wearing a 40 Dollar coat from Zara. Maybe she should have used thousands of Dollars of the Americna taxpayer's money to wear a designer dress like previous First Ladies. They really will use anything to attack them, it's pretty disgusting. You'd think, she travelled to the place to personally spit in the face of each of the children there, which couldn't be further from the truth.

I mean you don't really believe this, do you? The president, while not greatly paid as you'd expect, has a salary.

They have personal savings as well. I'm sure some budget exists in terms of paying for appearances- make up, hair, dresses, for state gatherings, but to turn this into she is saving Americans money by getting a $40 coat is way more of a stretch than anyone saying it was just not the time to wear that jacket.

Do you really believe what you're saying? I don't know how else to describe it other than uneducated non-sense.

You cannot compare a disaster where 70-odd people died to the situation where people knowingly illegally entering a country are being separated from their friends. That said, it is a very sad what's happening there.

Sure it was a message, but the media is outrageous in finding literally everything to slam them for. It had absolutely nothing to do with the children yet the media are trying to find some sort of link when there isn't one.

I actually didn't mention Michelle Obama btw.

They didn't have to do much to find a reason to slam the administration here. It's not earth shattering, but is just an absolute dumbfounding mistake. One that I'd prefer the people leading my country not to make. It was just a stupid decision to wear that sweater, and the fact she is trying to send a message by wearing that jacket, shows, she ultimately does care. I can imagine it's got to be extremely uncomfortable and annoying to have your life dissected like hers is, but the sweater was just a dumb decision.

Much like Trump at G7, it's just completely irrational, impulsive, childish and not well thought out. Communications and appearance matter perhaps more in government than any where else.

And for the record, I lean conservative politically. The administration is an unmitigated disaster

GOP's youtube channel think it's newsworthy when someone says 'we' want trump out.
You'd want to be mentally challenged not to want trump out, democrat or not. He's wrecking the GOP and they dont seem to notice/mind.

I want him out here, but the issue is a media member saying we have to make them pay politically. He's not just talking Trump, he's talking midterm elections. How he speaks is what has alienated so much of the right and allowed for someone like Trump to rise to his popularity.

If the GOP didn't use that to slam NBC over and over again, they'd be fools.

I can't believe he said that. What a complete moron.

Last paragraph sounds a bit like slavery.
