Donald Trump for President Thread

I wonder if there is a Merican Basketball Forum falling out about Brexit?

I doubt it somehow.

GOT can be a thing of rare beauty in this weird virtual world we all live in.

And that Roydo is what Adam Curtis would suggest is the reason why America has elected Donald Trump today.

Rather than accepting that the world has real problems and we need to face the cruel reality that we are all to blame, people have retreated onto social media platforms, forums, virtual worlds. We've commented and made 140 character quips but stood by while Rome burns.

In a world where information has never been easy to get hold of, we prefer an echo chamber of our own thoughts.

Will be very interesting to see if we, as a society, retreat even further

No one should have a right to just decide to land in any random corner of the planet they choose. That goes for me. That goes for you. That goes for all those others you've mentioned. We have to abide by the laws and values of other countries. There's nothing I like less than British louts abroad refusing to even slightly integrate into their surrounding culture. Equally I feel those coming here should try and integrate even if only a little, into UK society. I'm sure Americans would feel similar.

How many muslims do you actually know? Just because the Daily Mail/The Sun/Daily Express say muslims are protesting over not having this or that does not make it true.

For that reason vetting is sensible. Why allow people in who hate our values? There are very few examples like this but they still exist. So why ignore them?

There is hate everywhere in the world. Look how the media/establishment has successfully demonised White British people on benefits.

As for your remarks on colonial times, context is obviously not your strong point. Much of the US was empty, deserted, barren. Is that the same now? Now was it wrong for those that did target the natives to do so? Absolutely. It was reprehensible. Equally people who might seek to do similar in a modern context would be equally wrong. Trump has massively overplayed the immigration card, but your take on immigration is downright fantasy. Not all immigration should be legal. And banning immigration should be illegal. Because the sensible, rational view, is to take your stance somewhere in the middle. And that involves control.

My remark was tongue-in-cheek, but nevertheless true.

Why is my view downright fantasy? These people are fleeing countries that have extreme violence and countries that we are bombing the hell out of.

These people require shelter and compassion from their fellow man.

What gives you more of a right to be living in this country than them? Because you just happened to be born on a patch of land?

Maybe if we didn't destabilise these countries, they wouldn't have a need to flee them and feel happy to stay with their families.

It isn't, or rather shouldn't, be an us vs them situation.

Why would I be upset:

Republican White House
Republican House
Republican Senate
One if not two or three Supreme Court appointments.
Sure fire prosecution of those in the IRS responsible for targeting of conservative groups
#Benghazi, #ClintonFoundation #Obamacare
Undoing the lasting damage that the Obama Administration has done to this country.
Addressing illegal immigration.

No, most definitely not upset.

We haven't had anything like this happen since 1980, Bill. It's an amazing time.

These folks are hurt and confused, and have no intellectual framework or language to explain this beyond greed, xenophobia, and racism. Maybe someone will be able to offer an olive branch in future weeks, but clearly the pain is too much to bear to avoid confrontation with someone who doesn't read out of the same hymnal.

Politics does terrible things to good people. It makes them say, do, and post things that they'll likely be ashamed of later when they think about what they have said about others on this forum, through words or actions. They'd never do it face to face, to be sure. Most everybody here was raised right, at least to that standard.

I'm still waiting for that self-examination and contrition to kick in, but the time obviously isn't right yet.

Dicks out for Harambe Bill.

I see you appear to be on the offensive, from your tweets you have been engaging all night on the twitters.

I wont bite, cos I consider Murica a backwards country.

*shrugs*

If you've read my tweets as you say you have, you can testify to the fact that I most definitely haven't been on the offensive.

I mean are you kidding me? Many many of my followers live in the Liverpool area and as a so-called right winger, I'm going to go on the offensive?

Go back and have a re-read.

Certainly better than anything in Europe at present. How that working out so far?

The difference is that we (Europeans) are responding to a humanitarian crisis, as we should - I'd also like to think that for the majority of Europeans a blanket ban (even if temporary) on any religion would never be permitted. Remember we saw it all happen in the 1930's and look at the consequences of that.

The idea that you ban on the grounds of religion is preposterous. If it's because you want to secure your borders you, as we have, have sophisticated means of identifying potential terrorists or miscreants. Hence my comment about it being an unnecessarily blunt tool - unless of course, the intent is different?
